Early Thursday mornings, wipe away the flies
The crossfire fight for action in between your thighs

Every touch is sacred when they leave the room
If I have to switch the lights off
I wanna switch them off with you

This will make you love again...

Within Temptation - Running Up That Hill (orig. Kate Bush): I like the Placebo version and all, but this. THIS. This defines what this song is about for me. This version just blew me away out of the fucking water.

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (orig. Leonard Cohen)
: As great a lyricist Cohen is, the original Hallelujah sounds... kind of hokey. Out of the 5476437687 covers out there, only Buckley tied you to a kitchen chair, broke your throne and cut your hair, and from our lips drew a Hallelujah. Wrenched our hearts while he was at it. You get the Sobbing Luigi, Buckley. God bless you.

Tori Amos - '97 Bonnie & Clyde (orig. Eminem)
: Okay, Tori has a gift for covering music in general, so much that it's unfair to compare her version of say, Smells Like Teen Spirit with Nirvana's 'cause they're both so different from each other (the original Rattlesnake by What's-His-Face is hideous though. Ewww. Thank god Tori covered it and made it into something better. :P) This is the exception. She takes a stupid immature rap song and turns it into a terrifying tale that's made me hide under my bed for weeks. Da-Da wishes you sweet dreams. *shudder*

Johnny Cash - Hurt (orig. Nine Inch Nails)
: Another Sobbing Luigi winner. Hell, ask Trent himself. He doesn't consider it his song anymore. That's how fucking legend Cash is. Having the history and pain to go with it helps too.

Gary Jules - Mad World (orig. Tears For Fears): Tears For Fears was about the bizarre atmosphere. Gary Jules turns it into a poignant lullaby. It worked so well it's gotten so that everyone covers Jules as opposed to TFF. No offense guys (including Lambert, who I mention next), but you can never break me the way Jules can. The second verse? Just ouch. Ouch. ;;

Adam Lambert - Fever (orig. Lady Gaga): Gotta admit, when I looked up Gaga's version on YouTube, I was so disappointed to find it wasn't as lively and upbeat as Lambert's. This was my intro to Lambert, and everytime this song comes up, I find myself grinning from ear to ear and I immediately want to sing and dance. ♥♥♥

The Little Prince of course. Short and simple, and it tells us to treasure the little things in life, especially when we get older and are too much in a rush to see past our cares and worries and discover how beautiful and bittersweet life really is. Alas, sometimes I can be guilty of that. Don't we all?

I like one person's answer: the Dictionary. That too! XD

Dude, books are supposed to be life-changing, ground-breaking tomes of scholarly ecstasy. How dare you suggest such a thing! :P /sarcasm

I can't remember the last time I had a "light read" really. Would a YA book count? Though it was actually pretty serious considering its subject matter. So I'll go with Swine Not? by Jimmy Buffet. Cute read, nothing you'd write home about. Just some short fun. Do the Stephanie Plum books count? Those are good in my spare time.

The Mask. I used to watch a bunch of Jim Carrey movies as a kid and now I'm too goddamn embarrassed to think I ever liked this movie so much. I'm too scared to watch it again because I'm afraid the memories would make me crawl in a corner in shame.

Looking back on Space Jam, it really sucked. :P It's only lasting appeal was its music, nom.

Thanks to the Nostalgia Critic, I've been taught it's okay to look back on movies I've loved as a kid, be aghast of them as an adult, and move on without losing my sense of childhood. :P

Edit: Oh my god, All Dogs Go To Heaven 2. Yes, the sequel. With George Hearn as the bad guy. To quote Tim Burton, I better keep the magic pure and never ever watch it again. :P

Edit 2: The Pagemaster. I want to smack Richard Tyler for being such a goddamn stereotypical idiot now. Seriously. Nobody talks like that as a kid. Especially putting all their blind faith into statistics and gdjskghdsjkgh AUUUUGH

Middle school? All of it. The one positive thing I know is that I never have to go through those 3-4 years of hell ever again.

Children are little shits. Especially when they're at the age to know better but they proceed to torment others anyway because they think it's funny.

Teaching is what people go for because Nazism is no longer a profession. How in the world did everyone else around me get so many good teachers and role-models. I've known a few I liked, but only three changed my life and made an impact on me for the better. The rest I've forgotten entirely and some others, well... how did other people get so lucky to have so many wonderful teachers that it makes it hard for me to relate to them? Mine usually treated me like I was invisible, even when other kids have stomped my consciousness to tears.

Elementary school was fun. I loved school back then. But I got to middle and it all changed. High school was boring. Just a way to feel smug because you're smarter than everyone else and you're bound to go somewhere better. But that "somewhere better" aka "university" turns around to smack you in the face and have you feel like you know nothing at all, subtly humiliating you until you've lost all sleep and pride. Too many goddamn contradictions. "Grades don't matter" yet I'll never get into the course I want if I don't have sufficient credits. "Take it easy and enjoy college life" when you have to study constantly and work on that paper or else you'll never get a good grade and be able to "take it easy" like you're supposed to. So many goddamn lies and false hopes. If I had known that I'd never take Creative Writing or enter any of the courses that looked interesting to me (again, I can't have fun or have any freedom unless I have credits!), would I still go back to my second year in hopes I'll do better?

What a disgrace I am.

Proof that I learn better by educating myself alone.

You can say my view of school has been colored since then. Yes.

Sex education. No seriously. It's bad enough that a lot of teens are shooting themselves trying to figure out sexuality. Abstinence-only has done nothing to teach us about our bodies except to be ashamed of them and that the only way to take responsibility is to not have sex at all. Except after marriage to make babies, 'cause if you enjoy sex for any reason other than reproduction, you're a whore or a manipulative rapist. Infedility? What's that?

It really helps knowing how to have safe sex, including learning about the difference methods of birth control and the advantages/disadvantages of each. Hell, learning how to fit a condom correctly will make a TON of difference. What's an abusive relationship and what isn't? What do you do about pregnancy and STDs?

To quote the title of a Garbage song, Sex Is Not The Enemy. We can't keep blaming our problems on our genetalia and we need to take responsibility for our actions and decisions. It would've really helped me to be taught about some of the things the Internet had to educate me on, when I hated myself for having fantasies of some of my OTPs because supposedly sex was something horrible people did to manipulate and degrade others like in lame misogynistic pr0n0s.

No, your skin won't turn purple if you masturbate. If it does, see a doctor.

See? Whether you're sexually active or not, knowing this kind of stuff saves lives.

Alas, since we're still so entrenched in the stereotypes of men and women and the whole gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender debate, I don't expect this to go smoothly for a loooooooooooong time. :/

Dark Land in Super Mario Bros. 3. I thought the red water was blood (and that Mario had to swim in it!) and that a horrible scary ending would happen if I jumped in the pit after Bowser was defeated. I even had nightmares about the latter. Years later, I would beat Bowser, jump in the pit when Peach's cell was unlocked, and... just your old Game Over theme. Nothing happened. :P

That and an old Taco Bell commercial where a sage's skin turned red and he was set on fire.

Vladimir Nabokov. With tons of clever puzzles and setups, with Lolita alone you find something new. He revolutionized for me on how a book can be done, so that's... mind-blowing and I'd love to have what he's having. :p

Hell no to switching writing styles with anyone though. I like my writing style and I like being influenced by my favorite authors to make a delicious stew of my own. :o By stew, we mean Kirby's Cook Ability and Final Smash. Nomnomnomnomnom. :o

Ooh, tough call. A lot of my favorite films could be deemed as "cult." That includes the Super Mario Bros. movie. :P Phantom of the Paradise is cool even if for some reason I don't remember much of it, which makes me sad 'cause it's awesome (we got Faust and a rock singer in drag!) and has some catchy music. D:

Clearly I need to watch more Ed Wood, since the only film I've seen of his is "Glen or Glenda?" I'm going back to my corner of shame, 'cause I still haven't seen Rocky Horror. :( *sob*

I got a Flower Box from one of my customers during a trial run of bell-hopping at Marrymore in SMRPG. :o I should have saved! *thumpthumpheadmeetwall* D:

Mike Myers in The Cat in the Hat.

I felt like everything about my life was raped. Childhood, reading Dr. Seuss books, how I ever felt about movies... if there is a media hell, it's in Cat in the Hat. Even thinking about it gives me the worst migraine possible. No amount of MSTing will ever save this piece of tripe. It's sheer torture. A perfect way to make yourself fire the biggest bullet in your cranium possible. That's how beastly this film is.

Anything by Eddie Murphy joins the cesspool. God put me out of my misery.

wtf. This mouse has a button that AGAIN erased everything I typed up. *grumble* Let's start this over again.

It's a Wonderful Life, hands down. The problem is I'm not sure I can watch it every year, because it's one of the few movies that makes me bawl everytime. In a good way, but still. For bizarre and fun with good laughs, A Pee-Wee Christmas and A Colbert Christmas. Literature-wise, a special and original short story that Net Raptor links to every year that I forget the name of. I'll have to update with the name and link later specifically when I'm not typing from the library and the Internet works at home again grrrrr. As for Rankin & Bass claymation specials, Santa Claus is Coming to Town will always be my favorite. *-* Four words: Santa Claus = Robin Hood. A rebel who breaks the law by bringing children happiness and freedom from the tyranny of a sour dictator, with the help of a pet penguin, an ex-evil warlock and his adoptive elf family? FUCK YEAH. Not to mention Jessica/Mrs. Claus was all kinds of badass and I adore her. Plus Fred Astaire narrates. Fuck yeah.

When it comes to least favorites, I basically dislike any program that feels the need to jam the Meaning of Christmas down your throat 24/7 and what an eeeeeeeeeeevil Scrooge you are for not getting into the commercialized holiday spirit. Or you know, the stupid comedies and their sequels. :P The Grinch with Jim Carrey put a bad taste in my mouth. It was like Carrie in Christmastime but without the bloody and massive slaughter of Whos. :( I want to say I dislike Rudolph but I enjoy some bits and pieces of it like with the Island of Misfit Toys, but goddamn, I thought Santa and the reindeer that mocked Rudolph were more villaneous than poor Bumble ever was. :P Seriously, Santa was a dick in this special ("HAY DONNER YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF LOL"). I couldn't stand that Burle Ives Snowman, even as a kid! XD

I never saw A Christmas Story though I'd like to someday. Maybe I can ask my parents about it later. One day I mean to finish A Christmas Carol too, but I'm picky and will only read the edition that has the Quentin Blake illustrations in it. That has the most heart and sentimental value for me. *nod*

I read a funny children's Hannukah book called The Latke That Wouldn't Stop Screaming by Lemony Snicket. I recommend it to everyone! ;D

Anyone else think of Clarice from Rudolph and be reminded of Silence of the Lambs? :o

I listened to a lot of Talking Heads and Queen as a kid, and this A Capella group I don't remember the name of. The latter did a cover of "U.S.S.R" that I thought was extremely catchy, and to this day I loved everything from "True Stories", such as "Wild Wild Life", "Love For Sale", "Puzzling Evidence", "Papa Legba", and "City of Dreams." Damn, "Wild Wild Life", I adore that one to bits and pieces. I remember loving "Psycho Killer" and "Once in a Lifetime" too.

Thanks to Wayne's World, you can say "Bohemian Rhapsody" has become a staple in my childhood. That said, let's pick my Top 10 choices today with as little agonizing as possible (not including childhood favorites) (in no order):

1. Goo Goo Dolls - Black Balloon
2. Tori Amos - Precious Things
3. Evanescence - Fields of Innocence
4. Patrick Wolf - Magpie
5. Emilie Autumn - Shallot
6. Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile
7. Dido - Here With Me
8. Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight
9. Sarah McLachlan - Possession
10. October Project - Deep As You Go

Bonus: Sarah Brightman - I Will Be With You (Where the Lost Ones Go). 'Cause I had to squeeze that one in there somewhere. *nod*

Having a stuffy nose sucks. Sudafed is your friend, and nasal spray exists to laugh at your suffering. Seriously. The latter's like someone sneezing ice up your nostrils. I'll stick with Sudafed, kthnx.

Dammit, I wish the Internet would stop being flighty. D:

Best

Everybody knows how much I love Roald Dahl~ ♥

1. Lolita - Disgusting and beautiful. Any author that can make me put those words together is a genius, and that is what Vladimir Nabokov is~ ♥ He just reinvented the novel for me in so many ways, and now I can never look at writing the same way that I used to. It was all because of that man and this amazing book.
2. Animal Farm - We read to be affected. We read to realize that we have a heart. I had no idea what it would be like to live under totalitarian dictatorship, and this book made me realize just how frightening society could be through the guise that affects me most -- animals. I hear about invading armies and governments and I just think, "Oh my god. The pigs. The pigs. Huh? The ending of the book shaking me up? Of course not, why do you ask?
3. Misery - We who participate in fandom understand that the worst enemy is the #1 Fan. As a writer myself, it was like King took out a piece of my world and it all comes off as so real and eerie to me. Sure enough, Annie Wilkes started visiting my nightmares after I finished reading the book. Has a way of sneaking up on me. @.@;;;

Runner-Ups: A Little Prince, Fahrenheit 451, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Carrie, The Hobbit, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King, Coraline, Good Omens, Tales of Mystery and Imagination by Edgar Allan Poe, WE, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, anything by Mikhail Bulgakov

Worst

1. The Scarlet Letter - Oh dear god. It was boring as hell trod through what, 300+ pages of Puritan commentary, sin, Dimmesdale whipping himself in self-pity, sin, Hester being as amazingly dynamic as a rock, and more sin? Oh goodie. As long as I never have to read this damn book again. Besides, Puritanism does not sit with me, so even if I could slog through the prose, I'd still want to slam the book against the wall for the utter... UGH.
2. Searching For David's Heart - It had a promising plot: girl loses brother, brother is an organ donor, person receives heart transplant, girl looks for person with heart transplant so that she can feel close to her brother again. What I didn't count on was that the book had the whiniest protagonist known to humankind, her father is a bitter and pointlessly racist douchebag, the book feels the need to dish as much melodrama as gdjskghhgf I'm going to waste the entire entry talking about how stupid and infuriating this book is. Fuck it, there is no way I can tell everything I hate about this book unless I give it its own entry. UGH. *HEDGEHOG HISS*
3. Forever... - You know, that sex book by Judy Blume. I mainly flipped through it for the lulz to see just how CONTROVERSHUL the boinking sessions really were. The story is boring, obscenely outdated, I can't relate to anybody in the novel at all (especially the protagonist!), and who the hell names their dick Ralph? I did a review of that book highlighting all of the "best" parts, hahaha.

Runner-Ups: The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Blubber, Deenie, Wuthering Heights, Giovanni's Room, The Great Gatsby, Jazz by Toni Morrison, Sounder, The Wind in the Willows, anything involving Judy Blume's "Fudge".

IN B4 BANNED BOOKS WEEK

If I was a soccer mom, I'd say any book that doesn't have a happy ending. 'Cause soccer parents are complete total wusses like that. If they thought Judy Blume was bad, I would love to see their reactions to Yume Nikki! XD

Like this guy. BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW.

Allen Ginsberg is my hero. So is the guy who wrote Where The Wild Things Are, because he tells parents to grow a spine~ ♥

That said, I have no idea why the Lucario, Manaphy and Darkrai movies are rated PG. Especially Manaphy. Dude, is PG the new G these days or is PG a way to draw a more "hardcore" audience so big kids won't have to feel bad about watching kiddie movies or Pokemon or something?

Ironically enough, it's not the graphic sex that bothered people about Lady Chatterley's Lover. Instead, the English were busy going "EWWWW!!11! Interclass mingling! A upperclass lady and a gatekeeper? Now that's squicky!" Weiiiiiiiird. (Which I'm still on a break from. More pr0n, less whining about poor-little-rich-lives plz)

Here's a silly sample from a book I started that will make soccer moms froth at the mouth~ *giggle* )

Clearly watching the Top 100 One-Hit Wonders of the 80s with my parents has me all geared up~ Off I go to read some more Misery! Now Stephen King, that's another author censors hate~ ♥
