Post the first lines of your last 21 fics.

1. Shadows appeared before Briar Rose, thin as a knife's edge and untouchable as air.
2. "Stop biting your lip, Marshal." My Fifty Shades says. "You know it turns me on."
3. As far as N was concerned, sex meant two things: logic and selfishness.
4. Heaven forbid to be an adamant Kirlia without a Dawn Stone.
5. "Go away." Scrafty grumbled.
6. Zee-Tee sat upon a stool in front of a decorated table, his feet dangling off the edge.
7. Volkner listened to plenty of good advice, and most of it was directed toward children and young women. Oh yes, he frowned, very good advice.
8. Since he knew him from when they were boys, Morty knew that Eusine was a dreamer.
9. Grimsley had nothing but his scarf for company by the time Marshal met him in his room.
10. "The POKEMON here are so chunky! There should be a pink one with a floral pattern!"
11. "Where are we going?" "Home."
12. To combat the Cosmic Destroyer, one must send a being of creation. In that case, an artist.
13. It was funny about the things you find while your children have grown up and live on their own.
14. Exactly how far was Eusine going to do this? Did he love Suicune so much that he'd do anything... anything for the Northern Wind?
15. He told Morty to wait at the Bell Tower today.
16. She wasn't going when it was dark, plain and simple.
17. No grudge. No war. No fear. No regrets.
18. They didn't need much in the world at all. As long as they had each other, it was all good.
19. "Aiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Please don't hurt me!"
20. She had the freedom to see the world again.
21. Karen was not falling for it.

God my writing is old and shitty and terrible. To hate myself a little less, here's the first sentence of my novel, whose beginning I'm still trying to figure out:

Extra: Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy were two ragdolls living together in the Nostalgia House.
shamanicshaymin: Glorious beautiful Shaymin against a flowery backdrop. (Raggedy Andy :: Umm...)
I've been wanting to type about this for some time... months even. But either I was shy or distracted and IRL's gotten in the way a lot too. More noveltalk, this time centering on one of our main characters.

The novel takes place in a fantasy world where toys come to life. Our two leads are a Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy doll, and well... their experiences aren't quite as syrupy and adorable as that of their predecessors. Namely our primary antagonist, a nutcracker surgeon named Dr. Medlock, wanted to kidnap both of them for experimentation and was only successful in capturing Ann, leaving Andy as a fugitive trying to rescue his sister and avoid getting caught. While Ann deals with the secrets and horrors of Dr. Medlock's lab, Andy is pursued by a mysterious illusionist and his abominable creatures and magic.

Now here's the thing... Raggedy Andy is gay.

Obviously, I'm not talking about Johnny Gruelle's original Raggedy Andy. Novel!Andy, on the other hand, eventually falls in love... with another boy. Nothing's offscreen either. Hugging, kissing, the whole gamut. I've been trying to think about what this means in a world of Living Toys.

"BUT PURI, TOYS CAN'T FEEL SEXUAL ATTRACTION!111!1 THIS IS WEIRD!!1!111"

Didn't stop Woody & Bo, Buzz & Jessie and the Potato Heads in the "Toy Story" trilogy from falling in love, did it? 'Sides, it's my book, my world, my universe. I make the rules around here. Comments like this will be torpedoed and I don't appreciate them. That said, if you're not too wigged out by this, let's go on.

What do you do when one of your main protagonists is gay? Small paragraph of toysex, worldbuilding, and Puri disliking LGBTQ cliches. )

What do you guys think? How would toys view homosexuality?

Either! If I had to choose, I'd probably be more of a cat person, since cats are generally known to be independent and tend to leave you in peace. (Unless you're a cat like Zeverin, who constantly meows and whines. Syl on the other hand, is generally a good kitty. Both belong to my friend Dave) I could hardly argue with my doggies, though. There's something heartwarming about someone who's always ecstatic to see you home no matter how long (or short) you've been away.

Also: The Great Mouse Detective (Vincent Priiiiiiiiiiiiice!) and most of the 90s classics such as Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. If we're going classic-classic territory (aka the ones made while Walt Disney was still alive), then Alice in Wonderland.

Addison Webb and George What-'s-His-Face (Cherry?). I've known bullied constantly throughout school, but those two, especially the former, take the shit cake. Their constant slew of tmi and lewd sexual commentary was so uncontrollable that the teachers didn't even bother trying to deal with them anymore.

Speaking of useless teachers, I'd say they count as bullies too. I've wiped their names from memory, but you know the type, along with all the Umbridges in the world. (Okay, there's a Ms. Gavin, but thankfully I didn't have to spend long in her company) They're so adamant in doing nothing and don't want to deal with you, so they give you the life-friendly lesson of solving your problems by "ignoring" them. And if you don't fit their ideal definition of an "obedient" child? You're screwed. They take pride in ruining the lives of millions of children, and they should be fucking ashamed of themselves.

You mean there are sequels that don't suck? I'm kidding, I can think of several. ;D

- Toy Story 2+3 >>>>>>>>>>>> Toy Story. Please don't make Toy Story 4. I'll be okay if it's about Bonnie's toys (Pricklepants, Dolly, Trixie, etc.), just... leave Woody, Buzz, Jessie, etc. in peace. D: Their story is done.
- Does Unico and the Island of Magic count? The two Unico movies have no connection to each other except Unico himself, but I found Island of Magic to be much more interesting. Not only is the villain more complex than the one from the first, he's SCARY AS FUCK.
- Spiderman 2 and X2. Doc Ock and Nightcrawler. 8) Spidey 3 and X3 were disappointments. I skipped Wolverine. I'm pleased with First Class as a prequel though. :3
- Shrek 2. Then they had to kill it with 3, which thankfully I didn't bother watching. Shrek 4 was lame, but at least they put a dead horse to rest. Yeah, my hype for the Puss in Boots movie is lukewarm. :P
- Finally, The Dark Knight. There will never be another Heath Ledger!Joker. *salute*

You mean the ones I actually sat through from beginning to end? (So stuff like Ratatoing and Epic Movie/Meet the Spartans/Disaster Movie/Pop Culture Cashcow doesn't count) Let's see...

1. TENTACOLINO.
2. Mike Myers in The Cat in the Hat. IT RAPED MY CHILDHOOD.
3. Cool World. Talk about an oxymoron.
4. Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea. Jackie is the only good thing about it, which makes this movie even more frustrating.

Though to be fair, I'd rather watch Manaphy than ANY of the above three. Ugh, so much hate for those pieces of crap.

Think there's a heaven where some screams have gone? ~Tori Amos - Silent All These Years

There's something about that line that gets me. It's so haunting and it's like a punch to the gut with its imagery. Easily my favorite line, which says a lot 'cause there's a lot of good ones in this song. 8) (So you found a girl who thinks really deep thoughts // What's so amazing about really deep thoughts? // Boy, you best pray that I bleed real soon // How's that thought for you?)

Dear Writer's Block people,

Wanting a movie like Titanic to be remade so ZOMG JACK DAWSON IS ALIIIIIIVE!!11!11 or a remake just so Character A can be together with Character B instead does not constitute as a "remake." Just wish fulfillment.

Le Sigh,
Puri

P.S. People actually want Titanic remade? What? I second everyone on Avatar though. M. Night Shyamalan shouldn't be allowed to contaminate anything. :P

I realize this is VERY much "Be careful what you wish for..." territory here, so I'm going with the assumption that the remake will be GOOD, as opposed to shallow CGI pop culture celebrity crap.

Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure. Hands down. It had SO much potential going for it: gorgeous animation, creative elements such as the Greedy (disturbing as he is) and animating the characters by having them move like actual dolls instead of cartoons, great music (for the most part) by Joe Raposo (the man behind Sesame Street's music, including "C is for Cookie" and "It's Not Easy Being Green") and a few genuinely heart-warming moments like the ending with the Camel With the Wrinkled Knees.

The problem is it's disorganized as hell. I understand it was under time constraints and going over budget, but still. They spent so much time trying to make the movie pretty that they neglected the storyline and gave little character development to Raggedy Ann & Andy themselves. I also understand it's a musical; but the movie is glutted with so many unnecessary songs that do nothing to move the plot forward or show us anything about a character that it weakens the writing and just leaves us with an unmemorable mess of a shiny cast of blank slates. It's like they didn't know what to do with Raggedy Ann & Andy, but had an idea where to go... I don't mind making shit up as you go, but at least give me a reason to care other than waving a pair of keys in my face.

OH BOY. PURI GOES TEAL DEER OVER A MEDIOCRE FILM. (AGAIN) HERE WE GO.

If Puri Directed Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure )

If I had to nominate anyone to do a remake of Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure", considering the darker/scary elements of the film, I'd pick Henry Selick or Tim Burton. Selick directed Nightmare Before Christmas as well as James and the Giant Peach and Coraline. I can see him weaving the darker/scary aspects of the movie like the Greedy while still maintaining the innocence and sweetness of Raggedy Ann & Andy themselves, making an exciting adventure for children without talking down to them or insulting their intelligence, or sugarcoating or being too frightening. I'm a little more cautious about Burton since his take on Alice in Wonderland was kind of mainstream and "meh" for my standards (especially considering his previous works), but he knows how to take a "bizarre" setting and cast of characters and make something heartwarming. 'Sides, I wouldn't mind seeing his take on Raggedy Ann & Andy. :P Ten bucks says Johnny Depp plays the Looney Knight.

Fuck it. More than a Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure remake, I want to see Studio Ghibli make an adaptation of Raggedy Ann & Andy & The Camel With the Wrinkled Knees. That book is just begging to be animated. And there's material from Johnny Gruelle's other books, where Raggedy Ann & Andy don't just hang out in Marcella's room, but go on all sorts of crazy and fantastic adventures in the Deep Deep Woods, discovering whole other worlds, like a land and its people build entirely out of cookies. They help lost kids find their families, they make friends with bizarre folks like a Snitzdoodle and a paper dragon, and they outwit trouble-makers like goblins threatening to turn them into soup while still being kind and honest without resorting to senseless violence or treachery. They're fantasy books, and it shows.

Of course, if either of those movies get made, it'd nail my book (aimed at adults, not children) in a coffin. XDDD;;; So no rush, hahaha.

Look man, if you're gonna teach Sex Ed, go all the way. (No pun intended) Not every teen is going to be ~*~abstinent~*~ Along with ZOMG SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE IS BAAAAAAAAAAAAD!/ZOMG SEX WILL KILL J00!!11!1! from Teachers/Family, teens are going to be pressured by the Internet and their peers, and don't get me started on the bullying. (Or the Purity Myth. Or slut-shaming. Just... ghdskjghsjzghjsg)

Sex Ed. is supposed to be that: Sex Ed. It's supposed to be educational, not shoving our beliefs down a bunch of students. Yes, you will get STDs. You will get pregnant the first time. Here's what you can do to protect your body if you decide to be sexually active. People need to know what causes pregnancy/AIDS/etc. so they're not wrapped in an oblivious bubble of superstition. If teens were encouraged to use birth control and taught to look after their bodies and their partner(s), and that No Means No Means No, it'd help a LOT. And this regards self-esteem too, in a country like America that screams two contradictory views in your ear: "ZOMG YOU SHOULD BE ASHAAAAAAMED/zomg gettin' laid is awesome y u not doin it durrrrr." It's either the Puritanical or the Media and both are harmful.

So until America learns to stick its head out of the sand (and its ass) (Republicans, I'm looking at you) we've got a loooooooooooong way to go before we have efficient Sex Ed classes. Hell, the biggest worry right now is education in general. History? Science? Math? Art? Seriously, we've gotten... ignorant. Not that it's news about America, but even more so lately. It's fucking depressing. Our schools suck.

It's definitely Cussy, my gray teddy bear. (I think I meant to name him "Cassie" but who knows) My uncle got him for me. He went to the store, hugged every teddy bear that was on the shelf, and brought home the softest, cuddliest bear as a present for his niece. I brought him everywhere with me and I slept with him every night.

There's also Dawn, the one ragdoll I ever had among my family of stuffed animals and Easter rabbits. :3 She's got dirty-blonde hair, a pretty black dress with a flower pattern on it, and an orange sunhat attached to her hair that looks like it's about to fall off any second, but is miraculously still on.

They're both still on my bed. :) I also just unearthed a tan teddy bear with a brown nose (never named, I don't think) that was my sister's, I think, and he and Cussy played together a lot. There's a big Bishon Frise doggie too, and he's dusty in places now, heh. His plastic nose is still on! There's this gorgeous pink Easter rabbit with a beautiful dress and pinafore with floppy ears and pink ribbons on her head too. I forgot how beautiful and cuddly she was. Then there's this little polar bear I didn't remember having at all, but here he is. :o

Oh yeah, I have my box of Beanie Babies and my Cinderella castles and Polly Pockets. I wish I could still find Princess though. She was my favorite Beanie Baby and all the jewelry that came with her was super expensive. :( She was purple and gorgeous with a white rose and I loved her and always kept her in special case when I was done playing with her. But now I can't find her and auuuuugh. :(
