Dark Land in Super Mario Bros. 3. I thought the red water was blood (and that Mario had to swim in it!) and that a horrible scary ending would happen if I jumped in the pit after Bowser was defeated. I even had nightmares about the latter. Years later, I would beat Bowser, jump in the pit when Peach's cell was unlocked, and... just your old Game Over theme. Nothing happened. :P
That and an old Taco Bell commercial where a sage's skin turned red and he was set on fire.
