Pick a character and I will give and explain the top five ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them. Any and all characters welcome ( including ones I haven't written but might know about...)

Date: 2012-11-05 06:03 am (UTC)- In BW, N was determined to earn the respect of Ghetsis. Up until end-game, Ghetsis's cold nature was something he had grown up with, something he was used to (and Ghetsis purposely distanced himself from him also so N would be more likely in awe of him, because he knew so little about him except what Anthea & Concordia and the rest of Plasma said). In BW2, he becomes like Fluttershy at the end of "Putting Your Hoof Down"; he is never hostile toward Ghetsis, but he won't stand by with him taking over the world and abuse Pokemon either.
- While N is an intelligent person when it comes to strategy, logic and reasoning (and as evidenced, a talented trainer with extreme high-level mon) his social skills with humans need a lot of work. He himself admits this... he's great at communicating with Pokemon, not so much with humans. If it seems like he's stalking you or says something disturbing in BW, he doesn't know that this is generally perceived by other people as "creepy" behavior. While he still has an awkward way of speaking in BW2 ("That's an ugly formula! It won't work!"), he's had two years worth of experience and has gotten much better. He's a fast learner. :o
- Because of his yearning for knowledge and general intelligence, expect him to ask a lot of questions or else explore why he thinks the way he does. He's generally a thoughtful and compassionate person.
- Finally, N isn't the type of person to leave his past behind him. He still rides the ferris wheel, visits the ruins of his old castle, etc. He reminisces of his childhood and thinks about the person that he turned out to be, how it affected his choices, etc. rather than "zomg my past was so terrible!" He acknowledges the good and the bad; and uses that to grow so he could further realize the truth/ideals.

Date: 2012-11-05 03:33 pm (UTC)*giggles guiltily* But to be fair I only figured the opposite before BW2 came out! >.> BW2 proved me wrong, lol. Kinda makes me want to write fic where he takes Hilda and Hilbert to visit the ruins of the castle.

Date: 2012-11-05 09:36 pm (UTC)- If he was sorted into a house at Hogwarts, the hat would declare Slytherin before it even touched his head. Grimsley is extremely cunning and ambitious; he will do whatever it takes to win. He's a thorough strategist before and after battle, earning him a spot on the Elite 4.
- Grimsley is self-confident and could be considered a self-made man after the collapse of his family's wealth. ("It's more important to master the cards you're holding than to complain about the ones your opponents were dealt.") He makes it known to the player that he has ups and downs, but he doesn't blow them out of proportion; although he is disappointed by losses, he takes them into account to improve himself rather than sulking, and he takes pride in his victories, but never brags.
- Grimsley's never a quitter, even when he's having it rough. He thinks about the possible outcomes, which includes the fact that luck might be on his side at the last minute. Victories that come out of the blue or at the last minute ("bad wins") are still counted as victories, after all, and battles where he's tied with the trainer for hours before being defeated are still defeats.
- He seems to be neutral regarding Team Plasma. He looks out for himself, and what the player or Alder does is their own business. What matters is the challenge he has with the player and whether or not they have the potential to best him and the Elite 4 and Champion.
- Pokemon training is his life more than gambling is. That could be because hey, you're an Elite 4 member, of course you'd talk about Pokemon. But he does mention that "Contests like [battling] are proof that you are really living...", which gives the implication that battling gives him more thrills than casinos.
