Fandoms: Ib, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Literary Trysts It Gives Me Great Joy To Think About RPF, Maurice, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Toy Story, Twisted Princess, WALL-E, Windows 95 Tips.
Ib/The Picture of Dorian Gray - Mistake
Summary: A certain portrait has been added to the Guertena exhibit by mistake. Post-canon for Dorian Gray, pre-canon for Ib.
Ib and Dorian Gray are a perfect match for crossovers, and the writer for my gift has given me everything I ever wanted, and more. ;; The writer is seamless in zir voices for Dorian and Mary, and the story is clever and creepy at the same time. When you play the bonus dungeon in the latest update of Ib, you'll find that the twist at the end of this fic is even more brilliant. :3
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream - I Have No Wings, and I Must Fly
Summary: AM isn't done.
Once again, I'm singing a million praises to the author who treated me this, because it feels like a direct epilogue to the short story itself. Just when you think you can't get any lower than the lowest of low, AM proves Ted (and the audience) wrong. Hideous, grim, disgusting, and satisfying. It deserves all the reading and praise in the world, if you've got the stomach to handle it. ;D
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - paddy's pub: lesbian nightlife hotspot
Summary: "Look. Let’s be rational, here. You can’t just— dabble in homosexuality. It’s a lifestyle, Dee, a lifestyle, not some hobby you can randomly try and horribly fail at, like that time you embarrassed yourself in pilates class."
Dee takes up lesbianism as a hobby. Dennis disapproves, for (not entirely selfish) reasons.
Time to lighten the mood! This is one of those recs where I say, "Dear god, it feels like I'm watching an episode of the show." Lots of fantastic one-liners, and the writer hits the nail on the head on characterizing the gang in all their offensive, obnoxious, sociopathic glory.
Literary Trysts It Gives Me Great Joy To Think About RPF - I Would Be Your Ganymede
Summary: Literary history tells us that in 1882, a young Oscar Wilde took a tour of America as part of a promotion for both himself and the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta Patience (whose central character was based on Wilde). During this trip, Wilde made two trips to Camden, NJ to visit Walt Whitman. No really. This happened.
I don't usually read RPF, but I knew that Oscar Wilde and Walt Whitman had met each other, and I made a post on my journal squealing about the Literary Trysts entry about them. I was hoping there would be fic this year that would do them and their relationship justice, and oh my god... here it is. The romantic in me is still floating in the clouds, and best of all, much of the dialogue in this is real as Oscar and Walt's love for each other. ;;
Maurice - Alec
Summary: Two relationships, more than a decade in.
Alec Scudder has lost his legs after the war, and guess what? He and Maurice don't need no stinkin' greenwood to lead a fulfilling, satisfying life. And this fic shows why. I appreciated the realism too; I feel so sorry for Anne in this. :(
The Picture of Dorian Gray - Like the Painting of a Sorrow
Summary: In which Basil Hallward loves and loses.
Poor Basil deserved a better fate than the one he got in the book, so this fic is just as therapeutic for me as it is for the author. A very nice look into Basil's relationship with Dorian, and a satisfying conclusion. Basil may be heartbroken, but at least he's free.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica - Thorn
Summary: "Once upon a time there was a girl cursed with the power to grant wishes." Madoka had always heard the story of the founding of Dandelion Magic Academy, how there was a legend of a witch caged deep within the forest surrounding the school. But the school is not at all what it seems, and legends always have their roots in truth.
A magical school AU retelling of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and it. Is. EPIC. I'm a sucker for flowers and flower symbolism, and this fic flourishes with it like a wild garden. Creative and with vivid description of the witch's and their labyrinths, it's true to the canon while having its own twists and turns. I read all five chapters in a single sitting, and it's a ride I've definitely enjoyed.
Toy Story - Five Lives That Could Have Been
Summary: What it says on the tin.
Grab those tissues; you're going to need it. It hurts reading these (in a good way, mind you), knowing that when you're a toy, you really have little control over your own fate.
Twisted Princess - Mulan - The Dragon Lady
Summary: Always respect strangers, for they may not be what they seem.
A badass folktale starring one of Disney's most badass princesses. I'd love to see a podfic version of this.
Twisted Princess - Pocahontas - The Kindness of Strangers
Summary: She had been called by many names, from Amonute to Rebecca, and she had as many secret names by which no man had ever called her. It's best that we speak of her as Pocahontas, the playful one.
As one of the comments had said, this fic reads a lot like a grandmother telling her grandchild a scary folktale. Another story I'd love to see podficced.
Twisted Princess - Robin Hood - Her very own wanted poster
Summary: "I bet you can help me rob a few carriages."
Robin Hood is one of my favorite Disney movies, so I was delighted when Jeftoon01 did a picture for Maid Marian. And it got nominated for Yuletide! Here is a tale of revenge and rebellion, despair and hope. I loved that everyone's problems didn't go away as soon as Marian had her revenge on Prince John, and seeing her grow from being Robin's avenger to his successor is so satisfying and awesome.
WALL-E - Re-designation
Summary: WALL-E is still one of a kind. That hasn't changed.
Of new work, new names, and a few first faltering steps back on Earth.
Now it's time for my favorite Pixar movie. This fic? Is absolutely adorable. I love the poor perfectionist robot that WALL-E and EVE (now EVA) befriend, I love the robot dialogue and dynamics, and everything about this is cute cute cute cute cute cute cute. ;;
Windows 95 Tips - Ninety Five
Summary: A collection of helpful tips to improve your Windows 95 experience.
Good ol' nostalgic creepypastas. Perfect for a 90s kid like me. Hilarious, disturbing, and true all at the same time. It makes me wish I could access an old Windows 95 again, but at the same time, I'm relieved that mine is probably broken or lost somewhere so I wouldn't be able to run it again. Welp.
