“Fear is only in our minds…”
So PANDORA tells him.
He had been his guinea pig for a good number of months now. But Shadow refused to back down. He could be tied down and have his liver pecked out every day, but he refused to tell where Sonic is. It’s not like PANDORA would let him die—he’d bleed and heal, bleed and heal. Isn’t that what the Flawless Existence was? If he lost his legs would they grow back like Biolizard’s? Or would he live on robotic legs that stayed forever immortal like himself?
No matter his experiments, PANDORA didn’t dare find out. It meant wasting a perfectly good leg that could run faster than any metal one.
“…And I’m in yours all the time.”
Fear turned out to be worse than the actual ordeal—this Shadow learned for himself countless time. He’d be sent to heal, and around when he’d wake up, he’d stick his nose up at PANDORA, as if he were to say, Humph. Didn’t hurt as much as last time.
If PANDORA was fear, fear was an oven that hadn’t yet begun to heat up. He couldn’t deny that damn red orb that watched him from the walls, from every room from every corner in the lab. Nor those little scratches and cuts and burns that hadn’t yet healed…
Suddenly, all the weary ache would go away. Something warm wrapped around him, someone whispering that it was going to be all right. If only from the most obnoxious hedgehog he had ever known.
He was going to keep him safe.
