I'd rather be a "pit bull apologist" than a monster who euthanizes innocent dogs for looking like pits (whether they actually are or not), separating families or leaving them homeless due to pit bull discrimination, and endorsing useless breed bans which only feed mass hysteria and do nothing to protect anyone.

Thank goodness for people like this landlord who gives homes to families with pits. ;;

Any problems pit bulls have is because asshole humans bred them to be aggressive because they used them in dog fights.

Even doggies forced to grow up as fighting dogs can be very sweet and loving when given the chance to live as a dog should.

Any dog from any breed has potential to be assholes. Just because there's a few bad apples doesn't mean you should set the entire orchard on fire.

I didn't mean to imply that there's no hope for them—all dogs definitely have the potential to be sweet and loving. But the examples that the anti-pit bull people tote (of violent dogs) are all definitely just that way because they had shitty owners who don't deserve to have dogs.

Ah man, I don't have any experience with pibbles but pretty much everything in the article is equally applicable to staffies. Bull terriers make great pets when they're taught proper canine manners (like every other breed out there) and they're stupid cute.

After reading the article...are breed specific laws in the US as amazingly arbitrary as the ones in the UK? Here we assess whether a dog's okay or not based almost entirely on their appearance and how close they are to the profile of the banned 'types' of dog. Behavior, past or present, is never taken into account. :|

Pit bulls describe several breeds of dogs (including mutts) where they have "block-shaped" heads, including bull terriers and staffies. We got a ton of staffie and staffie mixes at the shelter I volunteer at, nom.

I think that's what distresses me most. Lots of people nowadays are willing to open their hearts to pibbles, but can't adopt them because they don't have enough money and they'd have to face the choice between giving up their home or their dog due to breed bans. :/ In brighter news, there was a city that lifted their pit bull ban after a pibble rescued their owner from being sexually assaulted by her ex. Pibbles are heroes!

We can't even quell our own human racism, so the thought that we could stop dog racism is honestly this side of ludicrous. People are assholes.

And I say this first-hand, as my wife has a small pibble/lab mutt that is basically a service dog, and now our apartment complex has gotten ableist as fuck on top of the dog racism - "oh, you obviously don't have a disability" EXCUSE ME SEIZURE DISORDERS ARE OFFICIALLY CLASSIFIED SO FUCK YOU?

I dunno, dog discrimination works differently from human racism. Pitties were considered "America's Dog" during the early half of the century, and the US even personified itself as a pittie on WW1 posters. Hell, during the 70s and 80s, everybody was freaking out over dobermans and German Shepherds.

I'd slam their faces with a medical textbook, but people like ableists and racists are a special kind of delusional that wouldn't believe in life in other planets even as tripods are zapping the entire country.
