Intentional loose ends and cringe (featuring me defending tadc because someone has to)

Thank you thank you thank you to this video. I feel like people went from "omg Vivziepop sucks TADC IS SUPERIOR" to "omg TADC is soooooooo cringe" over time when TADC refused to cater to their very specific writing demands. Gooseworx making an innocuous statement like "Pomni and Jax are the main characters" alone got her harassed to fucking hell. "OH NOES SHE'Z SIDELINING THE OTHER CHARACTERS!!!1!1" (Newsflash: having secondary and tertiary characters is NOT a sliding scale of the author's character preferences. This is Fiction 101.) "OMG GOOSEWORX IS MISOGYNISTIC BC SHE FAVORS THE HORRIBLE JERK JAX OVER RAGATHA" (Ragatha has had tons of character development throughout the show, and the audience doesn't consider that her being sidelined is likely intentional as commentary on how Ragatha's hollow niceness/toxic positivity is pushing everyone away) (Also misogynistic? lololololol what are Pomni and Gangle, chopped liver? Queenie could've just remained the offscreen dead wife, but nope! She's even got her own merch now!) And god, I really do believe all the sudden backlash against popular indie animation comes from internalized sexism, ableism, and LGBTQphobia from fans calling themselves leftist/liberal. Uggggggh.

It's like people are making it their entire identities to despise "cringe" while dressing it up as social justice ("Oh no, I don't just hate this comic because I find it stupid, it's also totally homophobic and dangerous for the gay community, guys!" See: the "Boyfriends" drama) That'd be like finding the Super Mario Bros. Super Show dumb, but going out of your way to say it's classist and dangerous to the reptuation of Italians when it's just an innocuous cartoon. Hell, the entire reason I stopped watching Pokemon movies despite liking the Zoroark movie (the furthest I've gone) was because I didn't want to make bitching about the ones I didn't like my entire personality. I was sick of ranting about the same issues I had with them over and over, and the frustration was honestly draining me. Hell, even talking about the same fandom drama more than once exhausts me, which is why I blocked/muted the LISA Confessions Twitter despite it probably being the only place LISA fandom is currently active. (One such drama is, surprise surprise, "yaoislop is cringe.") To quote the many DND Horror Story channels I listen to: "No DND is better than bad DND."

tl;dr TADC is an awesome and amazingly written show, and I can't wait for the final episode. I ought to get Caine icons now that I have a Paid Account. :D

Even the Nostalgia Critic didn't go there. He made fun of what he deemed riding too hard on Italian stereotypes, sure, but at least he didn't pop out the armchair activism.

One of MY "favorites"? Anytime Viv talks about the male characters in Hazbin Hotel, fans claim she's misogynistic and only cares about men and "that's why Charlie is badly written and sucks". I would like to direct each and every one of those assholes towards a mirror. Then towards some grass.

Yeah, the most heated Nostalgia Critic got was the Patch Adams episode, and that's due to the many liberties the movie took with a real man's life. Which, understandable. I still refuse to watch The Greatest Showman because it demonized Jenny Lind. D: I can maybe understand romanticizing a not-so-great dude 'cause hey, it's meant to be an empowering musical (similar to why I'm more chill toward Hamilton despite it not being 100% historically accurate), but Jenny was an incredible person IRL and to do her dirty like that is Not Cool Bro.

I still boggle over the people who say Millie is shafted and has no personality outside of loving Moxxie when like... hello? Do you even pay attention to her the many MANY times she's on screen? Or when the female characters are dunked on for (gasp) caring about a male character or (GASP) being RELATED to a male character, like him being her brother or father. BEING RELATED TO A MAN IS MISOGYNISTIC, GUIZ

Same, the PA review was the one time NC was justified in getting so heated. I never saw the movie but I did look up the real Patch and he was so much more than what the big screen portrayed him as!

Millie gets a lot of screen time that's NOT all about Moxxie! She's protective of him, but she also worries about things like her family and her strength and self-acceptance. (In fact, I along with other fans have noticed that Hellaverse subverts typical gender roles - the women grapple with feeling strong enough and My Greatest Failure and their pride, while the men are the ones being damselled.) And given certain Sinsmas spoilers Millie's going to be grappling with a LOT - yeah, it's related to Moxxie and their marriage but she told her sister before she told him!

It really does! I think of poor Octavia who is like "oh god my family is falling apart" which I 100% relate to and feel all too well. ;; And the arc about the male characters is learning to open up about their emotions and that it's okay to be vulnerable. The thing with Millie in Sinsmas is that a LOT of women end up in her situation IRL and so it is something they care deeply about. Why is it misogynistic to cover a situation that's normal for a lot of us? It reeks of "It's not feminist to choose a traditionally feminine thing" all over again.
