Kureha is like the Luigi Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing meme, except unfulfilling.
Me: Kureha is dumber than a bag of bricks.
Me: "I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THE PEOPLE WHO BETRAYED ME BEFORE WOULD BETRAY ME AGAIN"
Me: It honestly frustrates me how little she does as an MC.
Me: THE REST OF THE CAST HAS MORE AGENCY THAN HER
Me: HELL, SUMIKA HAS MORE AGENCY THAN HER AND SHE'S DEAD
Me: Like, the Invisible Storm is convinced that she's evil, but... she doesn't even DO anything.
Me: And I mean it in the "She's assertive and the leader of her own story" way.
Me: Things happen to Kureha, she never makes them happen herself.
Me: Why is she special? WHY?
Me: EVEN MADOKA BEFORE THE BIG REVEAL DOES MORE THAN HER.
Me: And at least there was a reason for Madoka to be passive.
Me: I better have a reason for Kureha too.
Me: But that's currently my biggest complaint atm. I'm really enjoying how YKA is turning out otherwise!
Me: To off-set how lame Kureha is, let’s talk about the third best character after Lulu and Mitsuko... SUMIKA
Me: From what I can piece together from six episodes:
Me: Sumika was a lonely little girl with no friends. She believed she was straight. She joined the Invisible Storm to try to fit in.
Me: Then she met Kureha, who was kind to her. This made her start questioning her entire world view.
Me: More and more, she spent time with Kureha.
Me: And lo and behold, she realized she was in love with her. Sumika was the very thing the Invisible Storm was fighting against.
Me: Sumika decides to embrace her lesbianism and her love for Kureha.
Me: When Kureha became the new target of the Storm, Sumika put her life on the line to protect her.
Me: She knew she was going to get killed fighting for Kureha, but goddammit, she’s sacrificing herself anyway.
Me: Sumika’s story is just so damn relatable, and why I get so pissed off at Purity Police who are like “Straights shouldn’t be allowed to write or consume LGBTQ media uwuuuuuuuu”
Me: And Sumika wanted to ensure Kureha would find happiness should anything happen to her. ;;
Me: Maybe the letter itself was meant to be a confession. ;; If the Invisible Storm hadn’t gotten in the way, “Your new friend is in front of you” would’ve been her way of saying “I love you.”
Kureha: (looks up at Sumika after reading her letter) What does that mean?
Sumika: (kneels on one knee) Will you marry me, Kureha?
Kureha: Sumika... of course I will!
