Youtube Channel rec: The Great War. There's hundreds of videos covering everything you could possibly think of regarding WW1. We're talking what uniforms each of the nations wore, the designs of each nation's tanks, trench warfare, important people and artists and writers, even how plastic surgery got its modern transformation due to doctors working to heal veterans disfigured by shrapnel and bullets. As someone who didn't know or remember much of WW1 outside of "everything was tense in Europe for a while and then finally exploded when Franz Ferdinand was assassinated" and skipped straight to WW2, there's a lot of eye-opening and fascinating information. Did you know during WW1, German-Americans were discriminated against and forced to give up their names and culture and sent to camps the way Japanese-Americans were during WW2? The US did the same "freedom fries" bullshit they did back then with German food, like renaming hamburgers "liberty sandwiches."
The more I learn about the Great War, the sorrier I feel for Werner Werman. D:
