Angrish is overrated.

Dear MSTers/Sporkers/Riffers/etc,
I read MSTs to laugh at badfic. If I wanted a detailed analysis of every spelling and grammar error in terrible fiction, I'd run a spellcheck. Unless it's a sentence like "Out pooped Sailor Mercury" or "Harry Potter masturbated his salad", I don't think we need commentary about how the author's spelling and grammar sucks. We can clearly see for ourselves, thanks.
The same goes for if you're doing a sporking in the style of Das Mervin's Twilight reviews, where you're being educational rather than funny. It'd be wise not to miss the forest for the trees; I think I'd be more angry about the brutal villianization of Princess Cadance to make the Mary-Sue look good instead of an instance that the author used "your" instead of "you're."
Sincerely,
Puri
I'm not as big a fan of the Nostalgia Critic as I used to be, but "The King & I" episode was pretty good. The Russell Crowe gag was overlong and felt out of place, but at least it wasn't as bad as the "Pearl Harbor" review where the whole Michael Bay sketch took up more of the episode than the riffing of the actual movie itself. I prefer my reviews straight to the point without obnoxious story arcs. :P

Date: 2013-03-21 09:10 am (UTC)I've wanted to complain about some uber-nitpicky MSTs for quite some time, but never had the guts. ...The constant rage in some of the das_sporking MSTs is making me uncomfortable. There's being angry at the badfic, and then there's just acting nuts. I mean, no matter how bad a fic is, referring to an author as "F.U.C.K.E.R." continually is worse than even the authors of Celebrian, Rose Potter, and Hogwarts Exposed were ever treated on Deleterius or the HMS STFU. It's creeping me out. (/mini-rant)
P.S.
"Harry Potter masturbated his salad"
...Was that in My Immortal? Or was that in a real fic? O_o

Me: "Whose Natsuno?"

Date: 2013-03-22 06:54 am (UTC)That was kind of the point of the skits, though - it was basically a shameless, violent parody of what Pearl Harbor actually WAS. Just a bunch of useless filler that totally detracts from anything of meaning or worth but takes up most of the screentime.
Yeah, it's not for everyone, but you can't claim it didn't prove his point in a strange sort of way. Ironically, the part that I liked least about it was the point where he pretty clearly breaks character and is not the Nostalgia Critic, is not acting any given role, but is instead just Doug and is very, very upset about what this movie portrays. You can kind of tell because he looks about two seconds away from bursting a blood vessel. You can't really FAKE that.
That kind of hurt a bit.
