"No. No, you can't. Stop! Please don't go away! Please? No one's ever stuck with me for so long before! And if you leave, if you leave... I just, I remember things better with you! I do! Look! P. Sherman, forty-two... forty-two... I remember it, I do! It's there, I know it is, because when I look at you, I can feel it. And-and I look at you, and I... I'm home! Please. I don't want that to go away. I don't want to forget."
I knew there was a reason Dory was my favorite character from "Finding Nemo". I HATED Marlin, but Dory more than enough made up for it, I loved her that much. So when she was all sad and angsty that one time, it really touched me... had me thinking of a lot of things too, relating to life and such.
I always seem to like the cheerful, uppity girl-type characters like Toadette and Dory--they're not screeching teenage brats, nor are they sluts. They're just happy and laid-back... they're in no one's way. Then, there's the guy characters. They seem bitter and cynical and cold, but deep within, they're softies with hearts of gold--Grizzly from "Animal Crossing" and Shadow the Hedgehog, for one. What gets me so drawn to them, anyway?
Maybe it's 'cause I'm a bit like that... I don't know. I mean, in my family, I go along pretty neutrally, and the preps at school are like "OMG y r u so meeeeen!? i tryin' to be ur fr3nd!!!!!!!11" Then there are the people who really know me and don't judge me quickly--they see me as the cheery, squealing fangirl that takes things in stride~ Yep, complete with singsong tilde.
...Maybe that's why I'm starting to like Shadamy. *SPIKE'D!* Note, I only said it was growing on me, I didn't say I actually shipped it full 100%, no questions asked. Yes, I know what you're thinking. "EWW, you like Shadamy!?", "But OMG they lyke, never talked to each other!!1", "OMG TRAITOR!!1 Sonamy/Shadouge/Sonadow 4EVA!!11", "Oh great, you fell into their league." Hold. On.
First and foremost, Sonadow is still my OTP. Which is a funny thing to say after that, considering I take plenty of crap for adoring the ship AND spent 'prolly around a millennia how to present myself to other people that yes, I had more than five braincells and that I wasn't a yaoi furry pr0n fetishist and all the stereotypes stamped with all the scary as hell Sonadow fangirls out there. (Still am, in a way. But not as bad as earlier) That, and I normally find myself liking the weirder ships (Dude, my OTP with Amy is Gamma for Chrissakes) or stuff that's generally well-supported or have zero to none drama anyway. So here I am, being freaked over a popular ship. Okay, Shadamy was probably ONCE obscure, so hence that throws a twist there. So, moving on before it's too late for me to go to bed and I'm up past 1 AM again.
Me, I never liked Sonamy much. Then again, I was never one for one-sided relationships. That, and it feels like nothing more than wish-fufillment, another turn-off in ships for me: it does NOTHING for Amy's character. What, we see her grow, see she's actually worth something beyond the preppy "OMG I LOVE SONIC" girlfriend stereotype, and suddenly, BAM! She wins him anyway and all development flings out the window--it's all been a waste. But that's okay, it's TWU WUV that matters. *rolls eyes* I hate that, and I hate it when I see it happen to characters I like. So I love Sonic, I love Amy... but NOT together.
Shadouge, you can run me through a blender, sit me in for extensive ranting, display the Classic*Fanfiction and Fanart*Gold... I CANNOT see it. Shadow flat-out told her: he didn't LIKE her. ("You're a pathetic creature.") Not only that, Rouge used him and Eggman to get the Emeralds--AND to get information about Project Shadow. You'd think he'd be happy about that? ("You've got what you've come for: take the Fake Emerald, and leave here. It's what you're worth." Wow, shippiest scene in the entire game. *rolls eyes*) So while Rouge does later call him her friend, she still sees him as mostly Project Shadow--and even if she developed feelings for him, it would be one-sided. Finally, if they got together, it would be a downward spiral: they'd just bring the worst out of each other. Shadow would be cold and calculating, Rouge would be encouraged to manipulate him, and there'd be nothing but lies... it's just shameless, destructive lust. And I don't like that.
Sonadow, though... that's free from manipulation. Dude, they fought each other: they have nothing to hide. To Shadow, Sonic isn't the Well-Renowned Hero Who Saves the World TM. Likewise with Sonic--he wouldn't give a damn whether or not Shadow IS the Ultimate Life Form. (At the end of the game: "It doesn't matter--what mattered was he was a good friend, and a true hero! Shadow the Hedgehog...") While the two definitely have rocky issues to handle, it was nowhere near a slap-to-the-face as Rouge was: Sonic's definitely known to get past bad memories, so they can move past being enemies albeit staying rivals. (See: Knuckles, who he's now friends with) Shadow'll take longer, but if anything, it's Maria/his past that bugs him; Sonic's merely an annoyance that likes to pop in his bitter, angsty face now and then. ;D
Another thing about Sonadow: despite supposedly "resenting" the other, they actually stand being in the other's prescence for long periods. I mean, look at Sonamy. Amy comes, Sonic FLEES. Then Shadouge. Rouge chats/flirts a little with Shadow, Shadow basically ignores her until finally he says, "Okay, whatever. Go away Rouge." and leaves. Finally, Sonadow. Sonic pops in with a perky hello, Shadow turns his back on him saying, "You waste my time" and anything similar. Sonic acknowledges he ain't too uppity to see him, but proceeds chatting anyway. Always brief and to the point, too--we never see Shadow clobber him or interrupt and walk away. More often then not, it turns into full-fledged conversation. Ten minutes later... holy frick, they're walking together! And working peacefully! Heck, Shadow doesn't mind. In fact, it even looks like he's happy.
Finally, we get back to the topic we were discussing in the first place: what about Amy? She sees Shadow twice: how's that for a first meeting, love at first glomp? *SHOT'D!* Shadow didn't act like he were being leaped by rabid squirrels ("OMGGETITOFFGETITOFF"), nor did he just brush her off coldly--more like, just stood there, being stunned. (In "Sonic X", he just looked at her coldly. In SA2 however, he smirked evilly at her) The scene aboard the ARK, I thought was sweet.
See, Amy never fought with Shadow or got any fierce rivalries. Nor did she ever use him in any way: she just went and told him it was wrong for him unleash his anger on the world because of horrible people. She understood him that yes, people ARE stupid. They're selfish, nasty beings that did horrible unspeakable things that should make them ashamed they've ever been created. But she tells him there's good in people too, that they care and love and help one another. She reminded him of faith in humanity... which brought to light Maria's real promise.
See, Puri's one of those people who believes Shadow never was evil--just humongously confused. :D Not to mention soft as a marshmallow: he's got all this arrogance and pride, and soooooo apathetic, and underneath he's dedicated and loyal, and a real sweetie,And all the Chao love him, much to his dismay.
Heck, if I'm going to pair Shadow with anyone, let it be someone who brings those hidden qualities out of him--Sonic promotes more joy and stableism, and overall being so much more alive. Amy, I can see her bringing up his soft, protective side. It's cyute, I tell you! Cyuuuuute~! Shadow needs someone who believes in him, loves him for who he is, help him heal and move from the past. Someone who will help him grow. Someone who will make his world. Someone who will make him happy as Maria did. Someone who will make him happy like he promised others.
Sonic & Amy can fit the bill. ;D
Whoo, good weekend~! I never had that much creative energy before! *_____* Seriously,
1sentence Sonadow Challenge, "Sonic" LJ icons everyone adores, me rereading Secret*Fic, (I swear to hell I'm SO wordy, especially those early chapters! XDDD;;;) family seeing Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire (and engaged in a bit of nostalgia upon how friggin' YOUNG everyone was in Chamber of Secrets), I should get my teeth extracted at least once a week! ...Maybe not. XDDD;;;
