Yaoi fangirl stupidity

So I'm reading the comments on a page to some random yaoi comic:

"it's like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde"
"If that is a yaoi, I must see."
"Hahaha no, It's an old story about a scientist (Dr. Jekyll) who makes a potion that is supposed to make him stronger/smarter etc. But insted it turns him into a really evil monster (Mr. Hyde) and while Jekyll is a really good guy, when he transforms into Hyde he can't control himself and goes on a rampage. It's usually used to describe people who seem to have two opposite personalities. A yaoi version of this might be...interesting...though :/"

My jaw dropped.

People... don't know... the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. "What's that? It sounds like yaoi!"

Maybe it's a case of someone asking if there's Jekyll/Hyde yaoi. But that's me trying to be hopeful. :(

Or should I say, internet nerds who think that watching anime and reading Harry Potter makes them literary geniuses when they couldn't read or analyze classic literature to save their lives ruin everything.

Oh, no doubt. And no doubt it's also vanilla compared to a lot of stuff out there. (Oh, Rule 34.) It'd just be mind-bending to call it yaoi when it's basically pairing a guy... with himself... in the same body?

...Huh. That's, um, certainly something.

(Though, to be honest, I'm kind of jealous, haha. A lot of the appeal of the actual book, imo, depends on the audience not knowing the twist beforehand- I probably would have enjoyed it more if I'd had that fangirl's level of knowledge.)

(Really? I didn't know that! I guess it's gotten so mainstream and culturally ingrained that Jekyll and Hyde are the same person that it isn't a "spoiler" anymore. Also, Jekyll was actually pronounced "JEE-kyl" instead of "Jeh-kyl." I learned this because of AVGN. XD)

Speaking of which, I got your recs, and I've been meaning to check out Animal Farm, so I may get that soon! :D (The Little Prince is one of it not my all time fav book, gah. ♥)

Stupidity can also be funny sometimes, haha. XD I was just... shocked, that's all. XD Don't worry, I still feel like I haven't read enough. There's a ton of classics I should've read by now that I've somehow haven't. :(
