Out of the 100 entries, we're likely to have a glut of Pokémon from Gen V/Unova, 'cause that has a bunch of my favorites as far as I'm concerned. The first Pokémon I'll introduce from that region will be none other than a certain Nazca birdie. :3

Name: #561 Sigilyph/Shinbora. The technical name is Symboler, but Shinbora sounded 20% Cooler.
Type: Psychic/Flying
Species: Avianoid Pokémon
Abilities: Wonder Skin/Magic Guard/Tinted Lens
PuriDex: They never vary the route they fly, because their memories of guarding an ancient city remain steadfast. They use their psychic power to attack enemies that invade their territory.
Puri's Nickname(s): Harvey (♂), Una (♀)
Notable Celebrities: None yet. :(

A couple years ago, I've been getting into cosmic/psychological horror with games like "Eversion" and the works of H.P. Lovecraft. So when I saw Sigilyph, I was immediately reminded of an eldritch abomination... it looked like something that would appear in "Yume Nikki." So while Sigilyph was creepy, it was the right kind of creepy. It wasn't Jynx-creepy or Mr. Mime-creepy in which those Pokemon disturbed me too much for me to be fond of at all, let alone join my party. Sigilyph had the kind of look that I liked and was fascinated by, not to mention had a pretty cool design.

Cue the real inspiration behind Sigilyph, and that ended up being one of the primary reasons it was one of my new favorites from Unova... it was based off none other than the mysterious Nazca Lines left by an ancient tribe in southern Peru. Now THAT is fucking original. And awesome.

With that revelation, along with the PokéDex entries, Sigilyphs are actually rather loyal. ;; Preserving the memory and defending the respect of an old long-forgotten civilization? That's dedication. And I imagine they give their trainers just as much. ;; Not to mention they're tough. Some of the wild Sigilyphs know Whirlwind, which makes them a pain in the ass to catch. But dear lord, he's one of the few Flying-types that you can raise before end-game, and so reliable at that! Other than Swoobat, he's the fastest Unovian Psychic, and has one of the best abilities in the game: Magic Guard. Huh? Sandstorm? Hail? Don't feel nuthin'. With Psycho Shift, you could be a total troll in competitive battling. Sigilyph has Spe. Att. and he knows how to use it. Cosmic Power + Air Slash + Psychic = Here's a whoppin' for ya!

I know practically nothing about the PokéPark games, but there a Sigilyph in the second one (PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond) and I thought his PokéPark Pad entry was sweet: "Until he met Darkrai and Reuniclus, he had been wandering around Wish Park and searching for friends he could talk to about this world's history and future." Awww. ;; I'D TOTALLY LISTEN TO YOUR STORIES, SIGILYPH.

So yes. I fangirl Sigilyph more for the loyalty-and-being-dedicated-to-my-mysterious-but-fascinating-culture aspect than the eldritch abomination-ness now. But that's one of things I like about Pokémon... they always continue to surprise you. And Sigilyph is no exception. :)

And its cry is adorable.

"Hello, it's nice to meet you! ...Why are you running away?"

Photobucket

With Great Sigilyph comes Great Swirlies!

Photobucket

One of these things is not like the other, one of these things does not belong!

Photobucket

Oh come on, it's not like he was the only Psychic/Flying Pokémon to be discovered in Unova.

Photobucket

I love how talon-like their "hands"/"claws" are in this. :o

Photobucket

This is how I imagine my Sigilyph acting like on my journey. So inquisitive about everything! And I just realized he used his tail feathers to rest on Hilda's shoulder. Aww.

Photobucket

Likewise, this is how I'd think "Fly" would work. It'd be fun riding on Sigilyph's shoulders! Besides, holding their tail feathers would be just impractical and cruel. :(

Photobucket

THIS IS WHAT I MEAN. God N, I thought you were against Pokémon abuse! >( Sigilyph must be tearing up from its three (single?) eye(s). ;;

Photobucket

Luckily for him, Sigilyph is all-forgiving.

Photobucket

He'll even share a bedtime story with you~!

Photobucket

Sigilyph is a pain in the neck to draw. Believe me, I know. So many details, auuuuugh.

Photobucket

You know what's fun? Gajinkas. And with Sigilyph, you can get really creative~ ♥

Photobucket

Humans and Pokémon, working together since the B.C. era and beyond.

Photobucket

This is one elaborate costume. :o

Photobucket

Likewise, a really pretty dress~

Photobucket

Stop trying to be cute, Sigilyph. It's not gonna... oh crap. THEM BAMBI EYES.

Photobucket

I ship Sigilyph and Togekiss. I think they'd totally be cute together. (And they can breed!) Meanwhile, one of the clouds looks like Navi or a Parasprite.

Photobucket

I even asked a friend to draw it for me. ;; [profile] da_space_kase, I'm still squeeing.

Sigilyph is a little sleepy, so he's going to fold his wings and take a nap~ ♥
