Look man, if you're gonna teach Sex Ed, go all the way. (No pun intended) Not every teen is going to be ~*~abstinent~*~ Along with ZOMG SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE IS BAAAAAAAAAAAAD!/ZOMG SEX WILL KILL J00!!11!1! from Teachers/Family, teens are going to be pressured by the Internet and their peers, and don't get me started on the bullying. (Or the Purity Myth. Or slut-shaming. Just... ghdskjghsjzghjsg)
Sex Ed. is supposed to be that: Sex Ed. It's supposed to be educational, not shoving our beliefs down a bunch of students. Yes, you will get STDs. You will get pregnant the first time. Here's what you can do to protect your body if you decide to be sexually active. People need to know what causes pregnancy/AIDS/etc. so they're not wrapped in an oblivious bubble of superstition. If teens were encouraged to use birth control and taught to look after their bodies and their partner(s), and that No Means No Means No, it'd help a LOT. And this regards self-esteem too, in a country like America that screams two contradictory views in your ear: "ZOMG YOU SHOULD BE ASHAAAAAAMED/zomg gettin' laid is awesome y u not doin it durrrrr." It's either the Puritanical or the Media and both are harmful.
So until America learns to stick its head out of the sand (and its ass) (Republicans, I'm looking at you) we've got a loooooooooooong way to go before we have efficient Sex Ed classes. Hell, the biggest worry right now is education in general. History? Science? Math? Art? Seriously, we've gotten... ignorant. Not that it's news about America, but even more so lately. It's fucking depressing. Our schools suck.
