I can't wait for the new Kid Icarus and Kirby games~

I've been watching a ton of AVGN vids a couple days ago, and he's really educating me about how to make games. Specifically, how not to make a games. :P I lol'd over the epic battle videos between him and the NC, so now, let's compare the two of them~

Nostalgia Critic

+ Top 11 videos! Those are my favorites~
- Sometimes does not know the term "suspension of disbelief," which was my big beef with him during the Quest For Camelot review. Hell, I don't think he even watched the entire thing, since some of the questions he was flipping about over were already shown for him. :P (Ex. "WHY THE HELL DIDN'T THE BLIND GUY GET HIS SIGHT BACK!?" 'Cause Garret was blinded long before Excalibur was stolen. Duh. :P)
+ Absolutely hysterical, hits the nail on the head about certain movies. Even with a movie you like (or liked. :P), you can still have a laughing good time and nod your head and agree at the weak parts. (Yeah, get rid of the cringe-worthy pop culture puns in QfC and we're good. :P)
- He can be unfairly biased. That one time, he was completely blinded by Nostalgia Goggles; In his Willy Wonka vs. Charlie, he unfairly ripped the latter like no tomorrow while showering praise on the former. (He liked the kids in Charlie, but he decided that 2005!Charlie was too goodie-goodie and perfect, so he shoved the prize to Willy Wonka. Um, shouldn't Charlie himself be a seperate category?) He also didn't seem aware of the book that well and gah. That's movie critics for ya. :P

Angry Video Game Nerd

+ He doesn't just tell us a video game is bad, he shows us why and shows all the clunky controls and ugly details down to the nitty-gritty. It's like you've played Superman 64 with him, only not. :P
- Sometimes his brand of humor is too disgusting for my tastes. Why so much diarrhea and vomitting?
+ Sometimes he does little tributes and specials to unique stuff, like exploring the NES accessories, expressing love for the Castlevania series, even an episode dedicated to Nintendo Power magazine. Talk about a nostalgia trip.
- Some of the NSFW videos will make you feel like not eating anything for a week. Ugh.

Overall, AVGN and NC are a good match for each other. ♥ NC makes better insults ("Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii I'm the Angry Video Game NEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRD! I got a small penis!") while AVGN's got firepower. Crackships FTW!

I'd love to meet Doug Walker and James Rolfe in person one day. :)

Man, reading Zar's review on Thief and the Cobbler is so cathartic it isn't funny.

Which makes me think of another animated movie (well, animated for several scenes anyway): Pink Floyd's The Wall.

It kinda has several elements in common with Cobbler. Gorgeous animation? Check. WTFery and symbolism? Check. Propaganda? Check. Almost no spoken dialogue? Check. Intended for "mature" audiences? Check. DEEP ARTISTIK MEANING!!11!1 Check. Heralded as a cult classic? Check.

The Wall has several things going for it though. Obviously the music helped, it's Pink Floyd for god's sake. While convoluted and making no sense often, The Wall is more interpretive than Cobbler, and not only that, it has a story. It's got something to say. Cobbler was about looking pretty and oh yeah getting back some golden balls. The characters were just that, paper painted over with lines and ink and no depth. Meanwhile, we barely scratch the dust off the bricks in the wall and I already know so much about Pink and his mother that it's painful. We're watching a monster tear its way out of its old skin. Through Cobbler, I'm just eh, whatever, I like the eye candy. But I'm glued to The Wall even during the slow segments, feeling trapped and uncomfortable. In a good way. I could relate to The Wall while Cobbler was just a bunch of fancy bows and flowers with no heart or sentience behind them.

The ultimate difference between the two, plot aside? The ultimate question: "What's the point?" I found myself asking that during Cobbler several times. But for The Wall, I already knew. It didn't even prompt me; all it did was nod its head with me.
