Sep. 25th, 2005 07:27 pm"Corpse Bride" lived up to my expectations. But of course. :3
Unfortunately, I come from a family that with the exception of my sister and I, they despise "Nightmare Before Christmas". Therefore, it was only me and my brother alone, and Dad would pick us up when it was over. And somehow, a movie about druggies getting high, a 20-kid family 'causing chaos for their parents (complete with slapstick and gross-out humor) are somehow better than Oogie-Boogie's body being made up of bugs? And "Corpse Bride" was tame compared to NBXMAS, mostly just bugs and eyeballs and such. I swear, it's such a damper when people like my Dad pick on Burton for having a "perverse mind", and it makes me want to switch places with a bitter elitist that hates NBXMAS 'cause Hot Topic made it popular (again). And obviously, if I tried to talk about the movie with my parents, they wouldn't take me seriously, and stay biased. As shown here, when Dad's knowledge of the movie comes from previews, and he proceeds to make terrible puns:
Me: It was sad in most parts...
Dad: Did she die?
Me: Dad, she's ALREADY dead.
Dad: *laughing his ass off*
Me: ...
And Dad's usual excuse was that he forgotten. Go figure. *rolls eyes* Hello, it's about a CORPSE bride...
Me: Unlike most movies, Burton's has heart...
Dad: Even if for this one it's not beating, it still has a heart.
Me: ...Right Dad.
Then I bring up that the previews for the other movies were way more disgusting than what was in "Corpse Bride", but he either wasn't completely listening again, and misinterpreted it as me saying the movie was less gross than the previews for the "Corpse Bride". GUH. And my parents wonder why I try to get out of talking about a movie with them as soon as possible.
People who just make decisions on Burton because of the "EWWW GROSS"ness of Nightmare and "NOOOOES I'M NOT TOUCHING THAT" Corpse Bride piss me off as much as people who whine that Roald Dahl's books are "mean-spirited" with "horrible adults" and that "no child should be reading such spiteful 'childrens'" stories". I just want to enjoy something without having a wet blanket draped over my shoulders, mkay?
