Badfic and crappy novels (*cough*specifically50shades*cough*) are making me sick of the word "blush" like shitty sci-fi novels made Stephen King hate the word "zestful." It's gotten to the point where I use it sparingly, usually referring to makeup. If used as a verb, it's for something that doesn't involve a person's face turning red. DEAR GOD EVERYBODY BLUSHES ALL THE TIME IN BADFIC, USE OTHER WORDS DAMMIT. Which is a shame, 'cause blushing is usually cute, but it's gotten to the point where it almost means nothing because it's all juvenile writers make their characters do when they're embarrassed.

I have two essays I have to work on, and both have to be a minimum of eight pages. I'm behind on reading material and I'll have to talk to the Disabilities Services and my professors for an extension. I did the first part already, I just have to wait until Monday for the latter. Home life isn't doing much better, since Dad had been having back problems to the point where he had to have surgery last Monday. He's lying in bed now, but he can't drive. I'm also scared as hell for my dog Freddie. About last week, he got into the garbage and ate something bad for him, so he's been vomiting blood and bone splinters. He used to be energetic and run around all the time. Now he doesn't smile or wag his tail, he usually just lies there. I'm really scared for him, especially since he's much younger than Amanda.

God I just want to get the semester over with and go to Portland. But if I'll need extensions for my essays, it'll take way longer than I anticipated.

Yeeeaaah, agreed wrt blush. I usually use flush or reddened or heats up (I rarely write characters who wear makeup so I actually am talking about a blush, I just...don't care for that word anymore, hahaha).

If your dog is vomiting blood, I would definitely suggest getting him to a vet.

I AGREE SO MUCH on this semester needing to be over. I only have four more days of class and then finals. Aaah, I can't wait.

I use something like "zir cheeks turned red" or "zir face became pink" or "blossomed pink/red" and things like that.

He's stopped vomiting, I should've clarified that. Now he's just tired all the time. Dad felt his stomach to see if he'd yelp in pain or anything like that, and he hasn't responded, so it doesn't look like there's anything sharp stuck inside him.

The essays are going to be such a pain. D:

I haven't been driven that far yet, but I refer to it as cheeks reddening or face going warm, it feels more descriptive and indicative of the character's feelings. I find blushing adorable, but the word itself falls kinda flat.

Exactly! Hell, even comparisons to tomatoes or strawberries are better in my book. Especially if one of the couple is a gardener or a cook, lol.

It sucks when your pets are in a bad way. And that experience sounded nightmarish.

Poor Freedie! I really don't want to be all doom and gloom but as nanslice has said you really should try and get him to a vet if he's been vomitting blood and bone splinters, that kind of thing can be indicative of just being ill due to bad food or it can be a sign of worse internal conditions (potentially caused by what he ate in the garbage). Make sure he's got plenty of water available either way.

Thankfully, he's stopped vomiting, so it looks like he's got the worst of it out of his system. Yeah, I've been giving him a lot of fresh water, he's been drinking a lot. He might have constipation, and my Mom's driving him to the vet when she gets better.

Oh, that's good to hear! If he's not vomitting anymore then that's a really good sign that there's nothing internally agitating him so it's probably just been the food, which is definitely a relief to hear!

Poor guy probably just feels rough from being ill, hugs to your puppy. <3
