Sonic CD
There you have it. One of my all-time favorite Sonic games in the world. It's the game that introduced Metal Sonic and Amy; it's your job as Sonic the Hedgehog to go back and forth in time to save the Little Planet from Dr. Robotnik. The animation in the cut-scenes blow me away and I lovelovelove it to pieces. Sonic CD has two soundtracks, depending on whether you're playing the US or the JP/PAL versions. The JP/PAL versions have "Toot Toot! Sonic Warrior (You Can Do Anything)" and "Cosmic Eternity", and the music for the game is like one long DDR track. Which isn't a bad thing. But the soundtrack I'm discussing is the one for the US version... the one with "Sonic Boom" that you heard in the video. I feel it fits the tone of the game better and... yipes. You'll see.
Sonic CD (US) has the most chilling soundtrack I've heard in a Sonic game. In a way, it's like Eversion before Eversion existed. You have themes for the past, the present, the bad future and the good future. The past music is significantly different from the rest of the songs in the current zone, and the bad future is well... it's grim. Lemme dig up the stages.

The Boss Theme. Dear god, the boss theme. D:
The Game Over theme is the most fucking disturbing thing I've heard in my life. As a kid, I've always been afraid of Game Over screens, but this is Nightmare Fuel notched up beyond any reasonable number. The game laughs at you for losing. Literally. In a tune that only Cthulu would love. Yeah, I think I prefer the JP/PAL version in this case. Too bad I have to hear it every time I want Sonic to leave the screen in boredom. ("Kids, there's nothing cooler than a PAUSE button!")
