Today I picked up the three Knuckles the Echidna issues at the comics store. They only had Part 2 of The Dark Legion, so I wasn't able to get that mini-series. But this was what I was most excited about: Sonic Universe.
Hello there! My name is Giselle and I'm a 20-year-old Sonic geek who's just picked up the first issue of Sonic Universe. I'm amazed what an incredible job you guys are already doing so far! I knew I was in good hands seeing Spaz's cover, and got even more excited as I read the issue! Seriously, such strong colors. Yardley, I sing to the angels of heaven, as I adore your art, especially Marine's little scrap sketches. Those were so cute. You really brought out the character of Blaze, Shadow and Marine! Finally, Ian Flynn... wow. You blew me away. You made me smile and laugh more than once: poor Marine, having to be called variations of the name "Maria" by Shadow. :) But yes. I loved the interaction with Shadow & Marine! Marine seems the type to be Shad's absolute worst nightmare, yet partner up the way the straight man and hyperactive little kid would. Also, the last two frames with Marine in the comic? Most hysterical thing ever. Especially with Shadow's expression not changing between the pages as Marine sneaks off to avoid Shadow's wrath! X3
Finally, I'll admit I'm biased and that Shadow has always been my favorite character. Not only is he the serious grump we know and love, his soft side is definitely there, and I felt a little sad when he offered Metal Sonic a second chance only to be rejected. Knowing that Shadow is willing to forgive those who wronged him touched me, especially since he had come so far from being enraged, vengeful and full of hatred. The ending where he sees the GUN Commander (Abraham Tower, I guess I should call him now) and Hope Kintobor is like a testament to this: Shadow has grown up.
Now for quips. Did you forget to color in Marine's pigtails at the panel where Shadow was pouring a bucket of water at the burning house? Maybe they got shaded with the background, but that looked kind of awkward to me. Other than that, nothing I can think about. I'm glad you remembered the GUN Commander had different eye colors! I like little touches like that. :)
Don't worry Knuckles. The longer the wait, the more excited people will be for your issue! :D See you later, guys! Keep the awesome work!
If you see a Star Wars-ish cover with Shadow pulling a Gendo and Blaze looking like she's almost flipping you out, this is it. Pick it up. *____________*
