Dang. Tempted to app for [livejournal.com profile] subspace_rpg, except I already have a lotta fish to fry. XD I'm surprised (and pleased!) how many Earthbound players there are! *______* Ness got taken though. Rats. XD I'd make a Pippi journal, but I still haven't beat Mother 1 and my save file is stuck on my comatose computer. Nooooes. DDDD:

While I'm waiting for my sister to pick me up today, here's a meme [profile] galuxkittytagged me for:

Comment on this post and I'll give you a band. Don't worry, I'll make it one you know and love. Put your ten favorite songs by that band on your LJ, then challenge others to do the same.

1. Happy Phantom

The time is getting closer
Time to be a ghost
Everyday we're getting closer
The sun is getting dim
Will we pay for who we've been?

I have a thing for the afterlife. So a (mostly) bouncy song about what it would be like to die is definitely one of my top favorites. Basically goofy, high-spirited (no pun intended) and fun, with a tinge of guilt and regret for those we leave behind. (Or will I see you dear, and wish I could come back? ...Will you still call for me when she falls asleep, or do we soon forget the things we cannot see?) It feels so open-ended, and leaves a lot of room for art ideas, thoughts of characters for novels, or fic inspiration... it's a fun song to create to.

2. Crucify

Every finger in the room is pointing at me
I wanna spit in their faces
But then I get afraid of what that could bring
I got a bowling ball in my stomach
Got a desert in my mouth
Figures that my courage would choose to sell out now

Aw man, this one packs a punch. Lots of great imagery and metaphors, and questions the authority of a jealous, spiteful god. (Just what God needs, one more victim / Nothing I do is good enough for you (And that very well may be true, at least for that specific version of God. :o)) Not to mention it deals with tearing yourself apart with your confusion--do you still trust and have faith in your beliefs or not? (Got enough guilt to start my own religion) May be controversial for some, but hey, I adore it. :o

3. Raining Blood

Fall unto me
Unto her
Fall unto me
The sky's crimson tears
Abolish the rules
Abolish the rules made of stone

Yes, covers count. XD I downloaded the original by Slayer, and I gotta say, this one's superior, hand's down. *__________* The loud frantic electric guitar is stripped to an oozing piano from the cold depths of the Underworld, and lingers ever so slowly, trailing the spook up your spine. The way she sings the lyrics is like... damn. Who knew Slayer could be so beautifully poetic? :o Nice Halloween tune, but works well for writing villains or darkfic. (Heck, I have the Deep Cathedral mix where it sounds like the Black Arms are echoing inside their sandy temples--and the vocals sounding like a demon's. :o

4. Precious Things

These precious things
Let them bleed, let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break their hold on me

How many fanfics could I write or fanart I could draw from these lines alone? Basically, my gateway drug to Tori Amos. I had no idea what the heck the song was about (more on that later), but I immediately fell in love with the frantic piano and pounding voice, constantly listening to it on Winamp on repeat. My sister warned me not to download other songs by her, and this is why: this song is about sexual harrassment, and there's definitely creepier stuff she's written about. (Ex. "Me and a Gun", an autographical memoir in a cappella about when she was raped) Precious Things, while about lonliness, is also about letting go of painful memories so you could truly start to live again. (Hence washing away "these precious things") I love that Tori could share her personal experiences into something beautiful (albeit often tragic) and mean something for so many of us. There's a cathartic feel you get from her music and you feel... stronger somehow. That you'll be okay and get through whatever comes your way, no matter how fierce. At least I feel this way. :o

5. Winter

When you gonna make up your mind?
When you gonna love you as much as I do?
When you gonna make up your mind?
'Cause things are gonna change so fast
All the white horses are still in bed
I tell you that I'll always want you near
You say that things change, my dear

Considering I'm a Daddy's Girl myself, I'm a sucker for father/daughter relationships, and this is no exception. (That, and I'm a sucker for winter/snow-themed songs in general, sooooo... hey, can't blame me for them being so gorgeous, with their quiet, bell-like piano and all) I also see this like a story of growing up, using winter as an allegory and symbolism--first verse, girl is a child. Second verse, girl is a teenager, cue angst and confusion (Mirror oh mirror, where's the crystal palace? But I only can see myself. Skating around the truth who I am, but I know Dad-- the ice is getting thin). Last verse, where she's an adult, and the white horses have "gone ahead"--and always her father is there, wishing her independence. Which she earns (You say I wanted you to be proud of me, I always wanted that myself)... but that won't mean she won't miss him in the end.

6. Smells Like Teen Spirit

Load up on guns, bring new friends
It's fun to lose and to pretend
She's overboard and self-assured
Oh no, I know--a dirty word
Hello, hello, hello, hello...

Three songs come to mind I have the most covers/remixes of: Lovesong (The Cure), Closer (NIN), and Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana). The original was a party song, hands down. The String Quartet made it sound like a fight/dueling song, and Weird Al's "Smells Like Nirvana" is for lolz. This slow piano version? Is just dreary. Which makes sense, since I think this was made around after Kurt Cobain commited suicide. It's gorgeous, makes you feel low and empty and well... feel like crying. Oh denial... oh denial... yes... oh denial... Hurts me every single time. In a good "waaaaaaaaah..." kind of way.

7. Cruel

I can be cruel
I don't know why
Why can't my balloon stay up in a perfectly windy sky?
I can be cruel
I don't know why
I don't know why...

To put in a word: wicked. And ouch. XD Definitely a favorite villain/bad boy/bad girl song of mine. Something about being blunt about your sadism followed by "I don't know why" just makes this "whoa" and... rawr. Could it be mocking sarcasm? Or just something they do because they do? I wouldn't approach this person if I were you, they'd be the type to rip your dignity to shreds--and laugh about it.

8. A Sorta Fairy-Tale

And I'm so sad
Like a good book, I can't put this day back
A sorta fairy-tale with you
A sorta fairy-tale with you
I could pick it back up whenever I feel...

Two rogues travelling together? Now that's MY idea of a fairy-tale. :o Okay, in actuality, it's about two people madly in love who learn more about each other and thus drift apart, hence the "sorta" fairy-tale. I've used that term in my vocabulary to mean a lotta things though: I like writing dysfunctional fairy-tales where the characters are weird/plain/flawed, conventional plots stand on their heads (stop mistreating the wolves!), and nothing is usual or what it seems... it's a fairy-tale! Sorta. A sorta fairy-tale. Nice peaceful song (You could taste heaven perfectly) and great for when you're in the car out on the road. :o

9. Mother

Go go go go now
Out of the nest, it's time
Go go go now
Circus girl without a safety net
Here here here now, don't cry
You raised your hand for the assignment
Tuck those ribbons under your helmet
Be a good soldier

Another wintery song that makes me wibble. And despite the title, it doesn't really work for Earthbound that well. XDDD;;; (Mother Revolution works closer though. XDD!) This was originally titled "Somebody Leave the Light On" for trivia. Makes me wanna use it as a chapter title or something. That aside, I'm running out of things to say, as you can tell. XDD!

10. Girl

Everybody else's girl
Maybe one day she'll be her own
Everybody else's girl
Maybe one day she'll be her own

Tells for itself right there. :o I've been obsessed to listening to this one lately. So dang catchy and haunting.

Bonus! Ribbons Undone

She's a girl rising from a shell
Running to spring
It is her time
it is her time
Watch her run with ribbons undone

It's my Ana (Earthbound 0) song! :o It makes me think of lavender and a rare spring coming to the town of Snow Man, Ana running through the flowers laughing and making crowns and laurels for her hair. It's innocent and happy, and Ana's daddy watching his little girl grow up, a timid soul who one day sets out with courage and friends to save her mother. Cuteness I couldn't resist adding too.

I'd mention Raspberry Swirl, except all I could say is stuff about it being my favorite trippy dance song and how catchy it is and fun to sing. (Ra-ah-ah-ahhhhah!-ahhhh-Raaaaspberry Swirl~) ...Wait, too late. XD

Now I'll let you in on a secret. I think if Earthbound got made into a movie or Anime, Tori Amos would be PERFECT for Venus. So maybe she's not an actress. But dude. Gorgeous voice? Check. Playful and flirtatious? Check. Sexy without being sleazy? Check. Hints a dark, manipulative side (aka Zombie Woman)? Check. Quirky and individualistic? Check. Non-sequitir lyrics and sometimes trippy melodies (See: Raspberry Swirl, Mr. Zebra) with passion, fun and heart? Check. Works with feminist themes? Check. Has an albulm titled "To Venus and Back"? That's no coincidence man. It doesn't help that VenusSignedBananaPeel by Aquas/Injury sounds exactly like something Tori would sing--coupled that Injury ALMOST sounds like Tori herself. Almost. (...Oh god, Tori hitting on Jeff. *BOO'D OF STAGE'D!*)

I'll 'prolly get Wendy's and start walking back to my dorm now. XD
