A Bug's Life is more nostalgia for me (haha, that video game based on it) and the boyfriend, but you just managed to put into words a trope that I didn't even realize was a trope (I'm slow, haha) and WHY it bothers me so much. I always felt bad for him because I couldn't understand why everyone just decided to completely ignore the good he's done. Same for characters placed in the same trope.
