sarajayechan: Eirika looking determined, preparing to strike an enemy (Soi)

I'd just like to see one movie where they DO find out that the hero lied in the beginning, but then they stack it up against all the GOOD things he's done since then, and then just forgive him.

Yes.

YES.

I've never given much thought to the Liar Revealed trope before, since I was always too busy foaming and hissing over Wounded Gazelle Gambits and Karma Houdinis. But seriously, the trope is SO OVERDONE. It's so incredibly immature.

No one likes being lied to. It can be really uncomfortable to find out that someone you've come to trust recently was lying from the beginning. But rather than go for the creepy groupthink of WE ALL MUST SHUN THE DIRTY LIAR WHO LIES, why don't these people actually talk about it? "Okay, they lied to us and we're not too happy, but let's look at all the good they've done." Or even have some people upset but others not minding much.

I think the only "liar revealed" plot I actually liked was Amiboshi in Fushigi Yuugi, because the Suzaku warriors had a reason to give him hell even if he was technically the nice kid of the Seiryuu crew. Nice kid or not, he was sent there to wreck the summoning and he carried that out.
