Jan. 23rd, 2006 10:51 pmSo, anyone think I should do the Sonic 100?
Maybe it'll help sort my brain out or something, regarding fic, drabbles & icons. XDD;;;
Damn! I have so much to do, and I quietly angst about it in school all day, then I get back home, and I don't do anything. XDDD;;; Puri you dolt! The weekend can't be the only time you're good for anything productive. XDDD;;
Don't you ever get all these ideas/plot bunnies in your head, and you're feeling really creative and want to write them down, be it drabble or some future really long fic, only you don't know what to do with them so they're left swimming/explode in your head 'till forgotten, or at least pushed in the back of your head, waiting for the day to gradually nudge you? 'Cause, I know I want to write about characters--I want to write about ships (or at least explore different character dynamics between relationships, doesn't have to be romantic).
My problem is coming up with a plot to place these ideas.
Plot & character are the most important aspects of a story, right? With fanfiction, life is a little easier with a whole universe laid at your feet already. Now I can take my pick whoever I want to write about: I could go with beloved, familiar favorites like Sonic, Shadow & Amy, or I can take a turn for the super-obscure and go for Bean & Bark, and Ray the Squirrel. Heck, I can write about all of 'em if I want to. XDDD "Okie dokies!" I say. "I'm ready to go!" Another voice comes to my head: "Okay, then... what'll you write them doing?" (Or in the case of ships, "So why are they together?")
This is when I freeze Animé style, complete with shocked-blank eyes, finger hopelessly pointing at the ceiling to nothing, and dramatic ink lines behind me to serve as shadows.
I always get stuck on that part. XDDD;;;
Now, a nifty plot goes a pretty long way. I stomp on a story if I hated each and every one of the characters, no matter HOW deep & wonderful the plot is. But I once read that a beautiful plot is more than enough for a cast of bland individuals--while well-developed and intricate characters would be lost among a weak story. Not saying I agree or anything (I most often don't for the latter, considering the video games I play where the plot is basically "SAVE THE PRINCESS/ANIMALS/WOODS/RAINBOW MONKIES" with plenty of adorable folks to keep me goin'. X333); that itself depends on the writing. :p To me when I write, the characters mean most to me... often. The plot doesn't have to be humongously complicated for me to work with, either--in fact, I seem to get all my ideas starting from a simple source. So, I could finally begin my fic and think, "Okay Mario, go save the princess" and well... let's say the longer I write, the deeper I get... the more complicated/developed it gets than what the "original" plot appears on the surface.
Whenever I'm brainstorming, it seems like I'm stuffing all my drabble & character thoughts I wanted to write about into ongoing novella fics, and well... oish. It gets real confused, and my mind's a mess. @.@;;; Hint: Puri should write more. Or like, go play/replay "Sonic" games or something. @.@;;;
What do you do when you get those plethora of bunnies like this? Write drabbles? Do 15-Minute-Exercises in a notebook or something? I'd love to hear your suggestions. :)
I also seem to be in an Iconnie*Mood so, I'll 'prolly test around with tutorials or something so my icons'll be less hideous. XDDDD I want to see if I can do something for the "Sonic Riders" challenge over at
sonic_awards. *nod* If not that, at least fix up a buncha new icons to show or something, or completely revamp
scarlethibiscus while I'm at it. XDDDD;;; Come to think of it, BOTH my creative journals need new layouts. XDDD;;; Maybe even my regular journal, too... but I dunno if I'll have energy left by then. XDDDDDDDDD;;;;;;
As for everyone's remaining Gift*Icons from the meme, I'm doing & saving up everyone's icons at once, so by the final spamming in my LJ, everbody at the same time will get their icon and be happy. ^^ Still slow-paced, but by next post, your pain will be over. ;D XDDD;;;
That why, by the time I get everything outta the way, I can concentrate in peace upon my Secret*Fic before January ends~
*looks over list* Wow. No wonder I've been so screwed. XDDDD;;; Need to prioritize or something.
