Okay... I'm not one to mention political manners, mainly 'cause A. I don't like talking about them and getting involved. B. Me humongously screwing up and people yelling at me. C. Fighting/Crazy debate erupting, which I don't like.
I caught Mom watching a documentary though, and I was going to leave and play games when she stopped me--she told me what was going on, and I sat down and saw the rest with her.
Meet Steve Lofton and Roger Croteau: they've been together for 18 years, and work as nurses in a hospital. You see, they were given these infant kids--HIV positive, nobody wanted them. So they brought them home and raised them under foster care, considering you can't adopt a child in Florida if you're a gay couple. Soon, you've got an entire family of children under their care--Steve stopped working at the hospital so he could work full-time with the kids, no hesitation whatsoever. One of them, Ginger, lived a full life before she died at 6--Frank and Tracy made it to 14, and Wayne and Ernie come from abusive families. And
one of them, Bert, is now tested as HIV negative. And these kids are
happy. They've got a home, and a good one--they ride boats, they go to the pool, play with sheep at a farm they went to in Oregon... etc. etc.
"But oooooh, isn't Bert like, considered 'adoptable' now?" Florida*Foster Care System says. "He's got to have a
real, loving, permanent home now."
Nevermind the fact Bert already
had a family since he'd been born. And consider this: Bert was taken in because he was "undesirable"--he was HIV positive. Florida didn't mind when Steve and Roger took him. But oh, now that Bert is "desirable" now, he has to go to another family. Well gee, I guess HIV positive = a "detriment" to society, but HIV negative = "normal" and "good". Not just his parents being discriminated-- what do you think
this tells Bert? "Hi, you used to be HIV positive and we
totally didn't want you, but now that you're negative, you're an acceptable part of our society~! :DD" OUCH.
"Oh noes, same-sex parenting is gonna be a threat to children everywhere!!1" So says Florida*Foster Care System, the worst in the entire fucking states.
I guess a personal part of me is speaking here, considering I've been taken from
my family and put under foster care by oh, the same Florida*Foster Care System.
Let Him Stay: Take ActionMost I can do, anyway.
