As someone who's autistic, I personally didn't have problems with Derpy. I've been made fun of for "being different" growing up, but the only time I've heard the term "derpy" on my corner of the Internet/friends was when someone was all, "Whoops, made a mistake!" and was meant to be endearing. ("Aw, that character is so derpy, I love him.") I had no idea it was considered a slur by some people until the wank started. oO;;; I don't care if they changed her voice or left her name out, but when I heard they had re-adjusted her eyes to make her "look normal" (aka giving me the implication that funny lookin' ponies weren't allowed in Ponyville ever.), that was what got under my skin. But eh, MLP: FiM goes on.
Disney's record is hardly clean (just ask the lemmings), but it's not like the same couldn't be said of any other studio. I guess with Disney it's popular 'cause hey, the purer it is, the more satisfying it is corrupt, I guess. But you can only tell the same jokes ("Uncle Walt was Anti-Semetic/racist/sexist/etc!") over and over and OVER and OVER until it gets obnoxious. I don't really watch Family Guy, but you know the episode with the parody Disney sequence, and then a Jewish guy opened the door and almost everyone (including the singing forest animals) went to beat him up? Yeah, I rolled my eyes at that.
