I've been on Discord 24/7, and the Empty Movement server has become a second home to me. There's so many wonderful people there, and dear gods, we need each other in these trying times. Especially with Georgia and Alabama passing the most misogynistic bills alive, and it's only a matter of time before Texas follows and it affects me too. Uggggh.

I've been posting a lot of my ramblings on life and fandom and video games on Discord... which I ought to be crossposting on DW, huh? I'm wondering about getting a Pillowfort, but I don't know how active that place actually is and I'm not forking over cash that could better be used for saving up to move to Canada. I really need to be more active about planning for my future (I'm fucking 30), especially if I don't want to be completely sucked into the downward spiral that are my parents' lives.

I've currently been watching Saranzanmai, and god, I love how fucking batshit insane that show is. It makes me want to watch Ikuhara's other shows. I've been meaning to watch Yuri Kuma Arashi for a while (mixed opinions everywhere and the beginning is supposed to suck before it gets good) and I'm finally giving Mawaru Penguindrum a chance despite my misgivings on it (there's a certain scene that makes me go YUCK but the other parts may be worth watching). Kunihiko Ikuhara is basically the Hideo Kojima of anime. XDDD Hopefully it won't be like my experience with the Pokemon movies where I absolutely adored the Lucario movie, and then I was constantly disappointed by the other films. At least I got the Lati@s, Jirachi, Mewtwo Returns, and Shaymin (despite its flaws) movies and Darkrai manga (which I genuinely like compared to my love/hate relationship with the movie) out of it? And I liked the Zoroark movie (let's face it, Zorua stole the show. ;D ) so that was a good place to quit the PokeMovies, haha.

Speaking of PokeMovies, I don't trust the upcoming remake of the Mewtwo movie at all. By all means, I would love a remake, since it benefits from one where it addresses its flaws and fixes its plot holes (LIKE WHY THE FUCK TOGEPI WASN'T CLONED) But it looks like it's going the Live-Action Disney Remake path and basically be exactly the same movie but CGI. Uggggggh. If they cut the Mewtwo's Origin prologue, I'm going to be so pissed off. Yes, you can technically have the movie without it, but you're cutting the heart and soul out of it if you do. Blegh, there's a reason I don't bother with main Pokemon anime anymore.

My best friend and I have been working hard on our Charasriel (eventually Chariskriel) masterpiece! I'm actually supposed to be editing the third chapter right now, so I'll do that after I finish this DW entry. I've also been heavily into Cuphead and there's a million shippy fanfics for a million ships (most of them involving Cagney Carnation. *cough*) I want to write. I also fell in love with Haunting Ground and I'm really getting into Rule of Rose despite my initial mixed reactions to it. More "Girl and Her Dog" horror games plz.

The worst part is that three of the people who wrote the Georgia bill are white women. Like Jesus Christ, imagine hating WOC (especially black women) so much they’re willing to throw them and any white woman who isn’t married to an insanely rich politician under the bus. It pisses me off so much.

I've been enjoying Sarazanmai too! I was wary of it at first because the premise made it seems like Ikuhara was taking his recent bad habits to a new low, but it's actually been legitimately good so far.

I... can't really say I like what I've seen of YKA that much, though. (I still need to watch the latter half of it, come to think of it.) As for Penguindrum, putting that one scene to one side (I think you've seen me bitch about it before on Tumblr?), I honestly think it's good. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece like some people claim, and it doesn't hold a candle to Utena -- heck, I think Sarazanmai has the potential to be better than it -- but it's definitely worth giving a chance.

Georgia now believes anyone who miscarries can be held liable for second degree murder, and if you try leaving the state to get an abortion and come back, you’re still going to jail and/or be put to death. YOU KNOW, PRO-LIFE. Alabama decides this isn’t enough and says if anyone makes a “false” rape accusation, they’re going to jail. And considering the track record the courts have in believing rape victims...

TV Tropes made me wary of YKA, but a close friend of mine whose opinion I trust liked the show in spite of its flaws, and since it’s so short, I figure it wouldn’t hurt to watch it. YES I READ YOUR RANT ABOUT THAT SCENE and I remember being nope nope nope about it. It didn’t help that an author I used to like but have since abandoned adores the show and I’ve been fighting to not associate the series with her. :/

I definitely wonder how they're going to handle the dub of the new Mewtwo movie, especially if it's a straight-up CGI clone of the first version. I imagine the old VAs are out, but for example - largely stick to the old script? Rewrite it entirely? I haven't really followed the Pokemon anime for ages (and only really know of the original version through others' reviews and a couple of used CDs in the first place), and I'm not sure if there's a precedent with old content being put out under the new studio.

It’d be interesting if the dub of the remake has a more faithful translation than if they redid the massacred 4KIDS version. That said, even the original Japanese version still has flaws and plot holes plaguing it. :(

At minimum, a dub of the actual original movie and Mewtwo’s Origin included at the beginning is the most I can hope for. ;;

I watched the first episode of Saranzanmai and decided to wait until it wrapped up before fully committing to it, but the positive response from Ikuhara fans and skeptics alike has me tempted to catch up with it on a weekly basis! I'll be interested in what you think of YKA and Penguindrum once you finish them; I was pretty lukewarm on both (Utena is the only Ikuhara work that's resonated, and I think it's largely because that was such a collaborative effort), but I always like hearing what others have to say about them and see if there was a magic touch that might have escaped my notice.

Saranzanmai is an experience, haha. It's really a journey, waiting each week for a new episode. :o And I agree that a major part of Utena's strength is that it was a BEPAPAS project, not just Ikuhara! Enokido played a huge role in the writing, and Saito kept Ikuhara's craziness in check to make sure it wasn't just a hornball fest. :P WE'LL SEE IF PENGUINS AND BEARS DO ANYTHING TO TOUCH MY HEART LIKE THE KAPPAS CURRENTLY ARE
