The Needle Cookie Story
Dec. 3rd, 2018 06:29 pmI keep seeing the "Needle Cookie" story brought up as the worst example of Undertale fandom and its antis. However, I'm going to have to play Snopes here, because a LOT of this story has been blown out of proportion.

So the story goes like this: there's a beloved Taiwanese artist who draws a lot of Frans art. One day at a con, she received a package from a "fan" with cookies inside. Like any unsuspecting person who loves baked goods, she takes a bite, only to discover a nasty surprise: there's needles inside. If she hadn't caught the needles in time, her life could've been in serious danger. All this? True.
People telling the story often say this happened because an anti resented her for liking Frans. THIS PART IS NOT TRUE.
As reported by someone acquainted with the artist, the attack had nothing to do with shipping or Undertale at all. Quote: “also m8s i kno from an inside source abt the needle cookie story. a) artist is Taiwanese not Chinese b) artist wasnt targetted bc of ship-shit. it was due to this artist allegedly being friendly with a translator who the perpetrator of the attack wanted to threaten.
Update: This is a speculative thought by some people who know this situation better than me! We don't know why the perpetrator 100% did it, but from what I do know the ship cause is Very unlikely.
The good news is the artist is fine, a police report had been filed, and she got her tetanus shot.
I'm all for calling out antis and awful people in fandom, but this is NOT the story to use as an example of anti behavior. Please please please check your sources, especially if it's not English-speaking fandom.
