 Adol/Dogi fic completed, with almost two weeks left.

I think the original idea of the challenge was to be inspired by the US equivalent of Mills & Boon, not have people jumping from crumbling twenty-floor towers that they've just near depopulated of monsters. oh well...

Mallow gapped at him. "You have thirty of them? How?"

Ash grimaced as he placed his sandwich down. "Well, this is way back when I started out my journey, collecting Gym Badges in Kanto. There's this place called the Safari Zone, where you're given 30 special Pokéballs to catch Pokémon within." He shook his head as he sighed. "Yet no matter the Pokémon I was trying to catch, a herd of Tauros would always get in the way, until, well..."

"You ended up with a herd yourself," Kiawe finalized. "It must be the same herd Principal Oak mentioned, that lives at his cousin's ranch?"

"Wait, those are Ash's?" Sophocles couldn't help but stare at the Kantonese for a bit. "You're seriously not pulling our legs?!"

"That's amazing," Lana noted.

~~~~~
"Woah, Ash, where did you get those scars?!"
Ash looked over his shoulder. "What scars, Sophocles?"
"You're kinda looking at them? The parallel ones."
The Kantonese passed his hand against the mentioned scars. "Oh. Those ones. Got them from Zangoose attacking our camp back in Sinnoh."
That made Lillie's eyes go wide. "Why would they attack you specifically?!"
"At the time, I just took in a Chimchar that... wasn't happy with their former trainer, and it was scared of Zangoose." A soft smile appeared on Ash's face. "When one of them went to attack Chimchar, I just... put my body between the two."
"You're crazy, Ash," Sophocles told him, gaping. "What kind of trainer are you?!"
There is a single player mode to this, or rather a mode where you play against AI opponents. You can continue to do this to earn digital packs of cards and the like.
I did it. I did all of it. I may have gotten hooked on the TCG again. I may have just self-consciously put down one of those shiny plastic flip-coins they package in starter decks in order to grab my fidget cube instead to properly ...uh... fidget with. I blame TieTuesday for this newly-remembered addiction.
Still. There is a single-player mode, and I played it. I'm counting it even though there is not a "victory credits" or "ending" past a like, two second conglaturation.
It plays surprisingly solidly as a computerized frontend/server for an originally made-from-dead-trees card game. Things are smooth and relatively inoffensive, and the gameplay balance is just as whacked as you may have remembered if you ever played the game before. It doesn't crash constantly, which I think puts it ahead of most of the YGO frontends.
A few things to note:
1) I feel like anyone who opens real life booster packs to a TCG like a goddamn packet of soy sauce needs to be arrested for packaging assault.
2) If you give me a character creator with limited customization options, I will apparently make myself look like exactly the kind of person evening news scarepieces make you afraid of trading Pokémon with.
3) This only happened because I can't play Sonic Mania yet. I paid the money, I want the gaaaaame. Whyyy, Segaaaaa. :(
Thanks for showing concern or worrying or things like that about before, I know I didn't really sound real great... well, I wasn't doing really great at that time. I think venting about it helped though... it stopped repeating in my head as much. I still get blindsided through most of the day by memories or reminders that she's gone, but it's a little easier not to get sucked down into it. Some days to recover helped the pain and hurt fade a little bit, I think. So that's good, at least! My birthday was pleasant, although it didn't really feel any different than any other day, exactly... it was sort of just like any other day I'd go out to dinner. But that's probably normal as you get older... in the end, that's all it really is. Another day, right? Anyway, it's done with now, so there's not really much more cause to think about it. Had a fun stream the day after as well with everyone.
I always feel like I need more content to really update over here... and usually when I'm working on a Handplates page, I want to get that done before I do anything else. So there's this period of a few days after the page is done and posted where I can do other things before I feel compelled to start work on the next page, and then I end up using those few days to draw OTHER things, and then before I know it, the cycle's started up again without me taking time to put something together over here. I guess it doesn't seem as pressing to write these up since it's a ghost town, although it's nice to know some people still hang around over here and read these, haha. You guys get the SPECIAL INSIDER INFO!! I actually HAVE posted some fairly spoilery stuff here before, I wonder how many people found it? I toss little bits and pieces of future events all over the place, haha.
Anyway, I thought I should probably catch up on the other shorter comics I've drawn since the last time, since it should hopefully be faster to do than typing up the Handplates pages, particularly since a major event just occurred. This will be a mix of Handplates stuff and other things, with some possible talk of Undertale spoilers within! But now you can get Undertale on the PS4, even more reason to play it! Hehehe.
OH heck, to open with, I totally forgot to post this here! I did a quick animatic Flash video for Handplates!
I'd tell you the song choice but I think it's better if you don't know it going in, hehehehe. When I first got this idea I was laughing so hard I had to stop what I was doing for a few minutes, haha. IT REALLY WORKS.
With two variant branches of Mercy going on )
I think that should be everything! Gah that took too long.
"[Kevin Pratt-King] had asked McCain for help after being diagnosed with the same form of aggressive cancer, glioblastoma. Instead of offering aid, according to Roy’s tweet, McCain advised them to move to a different state."
"Social workers began going door to door in San Juan housing projects, explaining that a pill could be taken daily to prevent pregnancy. Once women were told what the pill did, they signed up by the hundreds. However, these women were not informed that they were part of a clinical trial or that the treatment was experimental."
"Side effects [of the vaginal implant] can range from chronic pain and loss of sexual function, to major complications like the implant protruding through the bladder, or bowels, even necessitating removal of organs ensnared in the mesh. It can shrink inside your body, slicing through nerve endings, tissue and organs."
"If someone makes the effort of going to doctor after doctor, and all they are given is a pat on the head and told, 'Oh, sweetie, you'll be OK—you just need to smile more,' that is a failure of the physicians." Article covers both social biases (like doctors assuming a woman's problems are psychosomatic instead of doing tests) and biological ones (like researchers only testing on male mice, leaving them with huge gaps in knowledge regarding biologically female humans).
"The Gay Men’s Chorus posed to illustrate the impact of AIDS. Those dressed in black, with their backs turned, represent those who had died." This 1993 photo is a punch in the heart.
"The military spends five times as much on Viagra as it would on transgender troops’ medical care."
And for something more hopeful:
An experiment, recounted in comic form: If you put rats alone in cages, they'll addict themselves to morphine. If you put them in an enriching environment with a bunch of other rats to hang out with, they'll avoid it.
Gisella Perl, the "Angel of Auschwitz" -- who got that title by providing abortions, so the Nazis wouldn't have pregnant Jewish women to experiment on.
"As what was thought to be the largest referral service in the country, which referred an estimated half million women for abortions in its six years of existence, the [Clergy Consultation Service] had significant market power that it leveraged to reduce the going rate for an abortion." The name isn't a euphemism. It was literally a coalition of Protestant and Jewish religious leaders.
"Intersex advocates are rejoicing at a paper released by three former US Surgeons General. The surgeon-generals called for an end to forced medical surgeries on young intersex people."
